Solar Farm

Solar Farm

Has anyone else been following this, I guess we'll find out how well it works next year some time but looking at it & reading about it I can't help but to think of it somehow being turned into a weapon as well.

Sam what do you think they're gonna do, tip it up and aim it at Bush's ranch in Texas? :D

"Environmentalists warn that the construction threatens the desert ecosystem, while the heated plumes of air from the towers could singe migrating birds."

Look at the comment on that article.

Hey, it's the evil Bechtel horrible corporation that's doing that. You must be totally against it, right?

Liberal Logic:

We demand alternate energy sources!

That new one might singe a sparrow. Cancel it.

Sam you're right it will be turned into a weapon. A political one. As Dan has said the "left" demands "clean" energy but dammit you better not hurt the earth or any critter on it in doing so. Not so much as a gnat or the lefty pinko's will demand it be shut down. Cherokee Hair Tampons anyone?

Some FYI Math.....at a cost of $2.2B, they are supplying 140,000 homes. If each home is billed an average of $150 / month it will take close to 9 years to get to $2.2B.

The $150 / month bill would be split between generation / delivery and tax surcharges like we all see on our bills so the actual payback for the generation portion would take much longer. Add in the cost of maintenance and daily operation and the ROI stretches even further.

I guess the guy that has to clean all those mirrors will have one mean sunburn and no eyebrows from the reflection! That's a lotta Windex!

Guess it's because it came from me but I didn't know there were so many experts on the subject. Now let me get this right the left is against it but it's being built now, no where did I ever say or imply I was against it & I implied that somehow the technology could someday be used as a weapon, maybe bouncing an energy wave off a satellite to Dann's pick-up or something like that. I can recall getting much the same response when I implied that fracking had something to do with the earthquake in Ohio as well. more resident experts on everything.

Leave it to myopic Americans to build a power plant that only works half the time.

http://inhabitat.com/worlds-first-molte ... -at-night/

Sicily has just announced the opening of the world’s first concentrated solar power (CSP) facility that uses molten salt as a heat collection medium. Since molten salt is able to reach very high temperatures (over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit) and can hold more heat than the synthetic oil used in other CSP plants, the plant is able to continue to produce electricity even after the sun has gone down.

Not to worry jpete. Once the One World Gov. is in place and your much ballyhooed constitution is a memory, they will build a 'smart grid" world wide to share the sun everywhere. At a huge cost of course, all footed by the more fortunate(middle class) people. You'll love it.

Why is advocating for better technology somehow "communistic" to some people? Is a solar farm that works at night better than one that doesn't?

Just do this...

American business always plays the short game. Outsource all the manufacturing to gain profit today without thinking that if people don't have jobs, they can't buy your over priced junk.

Same thing here. The technology exists to do a better job but doing it right the first time doesn't provide an opportunity to make money doing it over....
