Lost a friend & Bounty Sank!

Lost a friend & Bounty Sank!

PostBy: Poconoeagle On: Mon Oct 29, 2012 9:52 pm

Looks like my old friend Robin is gone. News says lost at sea. He was the captain of the Bounty. It went down in the storm today. :( Robin was a great guy. A female crew was found but unresponsive. I can't believe he had her that far out to sea and lost propulsion and couldn't get her to shore.

God help him. :|

Yep, God be with him.
I remember when I was on the Bounty about 6 years ago, I thought a huge ship like this could never be sunk.
Never say Never.

Thank you. I am sorry too. My condolences to his family.
Guess three were washed overboard Most crew had survival suits on. One of the three made it to a raft.

Sorry to hear of Robin losing his life at sea. How did it come that that weren't in a safe port during the storm? Sad situation.

Sorry to hear of your loss of a friend Pocono, I have always heard of ships being safer out at sea but I guess Sandy was just too big.

It's very sad to find out the HMS Bounty has had it's last voyage. The Ship and Crew were well known in our small town of Boothbay Harbor.
The largest marine railway, 700 ton, north and east of Boston is at the Old Frank l. Sample Shipyard in the harbor....The Bounty spent about three weeks on the railway hauled out for repairs in late September to mid October. My GF snapped a few pics of th Bounty a couple of weeks ago...will try to post asap.
We all feel a great loss for the Captain, Crew and Ship.

A sad day for sure. I heard a report that said they were leaving the storm area and should have had enough time to make it, but for some unknown reason started taking on water. Disaster followed. Life at sea is always close to God.

Terrible as it is, Robbin was doing what he loved best. I wonder if something was amiss after the haul out and thus the water intrusion went unnoticed till the diesel stopped and the genset stopped thus no pumps. I wish he could have run her aground and saved all. Sandy was the pilot on this one ;)

Bummer. Sounds like He was a good guy and living his dream. That's ain't all bad. Most of us never get close to doing that so I applaud the life of this man. As is Tradition, the Captain is the last (and so most likely) to be lost with his ship.

.....As a twist of fate, last night , Boston's TV station WHDH Channel 5 did a 'Chronicle' segment on Booth Bay and as you now know, the Bounty had been there for some time; and the Capt. was in the interviews and a few of the crew.
Seemed like great folks, who truly loved the sea and the adventures it provides. They were able to pass doing something they truly loved......and how many of us will be so lucky. :?: :!: :?:
