Just gets to involved with Babbu running the quicky mart. Probably could be worked out if they were made aware of the $ they make when the power is out and they aint. Certainly works for a couple of private stations in the Machias area. But they have no Babbu's, just greedy capitalist.

Freetown Fred,

You must have a 250 Gal gas tank around the farm with a hand crank pump on it to donate. I cannot believe that someone down there doesn't have one laying around. All they need to do it add length of pipe to it and start pumping. These people have to think outside of the box and stop waiting for somebody to come and bail them out.

They have never had to do anything outside their narrow little expertise. All other things are handled by someone else. Licensing, certifications, union rules, zoning, etc, etc, etc. Generations have gone by being taught they can't do anything outside their training. Let the professionals handle that. You might get hurt trying to survive.

I too have supplies, coal, food, water, all the batteries are new in the flashlights. I even had gas for the generator. But I expected another Irene type outage. Not the apocalypse.

There was a guy and his wife at the gas station here in town this afternoon that filled up (12) 5 gallon plastic containers with gasoline and was heading back to NYC with the containers in back of his pickup truck. He'll be popular guy when he gets to NYC.

Sorry if it seems I make to light of your situation. You are well prepared, so what is the problem? Can't go to work? No help in sight? Who is to blame for the storm?
I was without power for more then a week in the Ice Storm of 98. Not one gov. agency came around my house, no free food, no free gas, no nothing. And it was winter in Maine. I used my time by taking my generator to friends and families houses first and them to other homes to keep the pipes from freezing and the freezers from thawing. The situation is what it is and there is no "proper" response to it. It covers a huge geographic area and the infrastructure is damaged badly. Complaining will not change anything. There is simply no right answer and it will take time and hardship to recover. So sorry anyone is in this situation, but there is no magic wand.

I drive a lot so gas is a concern of mine but so far one been able to get gas in my work truck. I personally don't need any help. I'm pretty much set but I still hope the power comes back on soon so I don't have to deal witness the idiots in panic mode on the road.

As for whose fault this is. Would it be wrong if I said Obama's? LOL...He's an idiot.

I still feel I slighted people that find themselves in this thing. I will add that I went online today and tried to find ways to use my skills to help people, but they only want money and some goods. Not more people to get in the way, that is the nature of this thing. There are plenty of people already there with skills, just can't get about or get supplies or anything to make things better. It is going to be rough and might get nasty. If your in it, take care of yourself, some of us outside have been there and are thinking of you and would like to help. I am as powerless as Obama.

There are two trees that came down across what I can only guess is low voltage lines (cable, phone) at the entrance to my lake. I've got a chainsaw and thought about cutting them down because no one else has done it, I however lack the skills to safely remove the trees from the wires.

The problem with the fuel supply is not only that some stations are still out of power but the areas where the tank farms are located are still having difficulty pumping the fuel into the tank wagons for various reasons, so the fuel isn't getting to the stations. I was on generator power from 8 PM Monday to Thursday morning. Wednesday afternoon a buddy and I made a run to Stroudsburg, Pa for fuel.

We have, for all intents and purposes, become victims of our own technology. The POS (Point Of Sale) devices are not working in a lot of stores, so you can't use your credit or debit card, it's cash only (sometimes exact change). Who carries cash anymore? Couldn't use the ATM at the bank, had to cash a paper check!

You can't pump gas out of a tank in the ground with a hand pump and sell it to someone! How are you going to measure it--gonna use an empty gallon antifreeze container? And the whole idea of a back up generator at a gas station is absurd, ignoring the fact that there are commercial generators that run on natural gas.

Remember, here in the Garden State we can't even be trusted to pump our own gasoline.

Really???? Someone needs to run up to Maine and tell them fools it is impossible! What were they thinking. I know, they probably need generator certifications, special fire training, noise level studies, impact studies on the rare hot top toad, certification for mitigating potential oil spills, engineers degree to run an oscilloscope to determine the correct sine wave for the equipment, and someone to stand a fire watch. That is the beauty of the boonies, just get er done. Need more of us down in NJ and NY right now. :D

I know, you were just pointing out that common sense and individualism just dont cut it in the urban environment. To bad though, it doesn't need to be so hard.
Keep on plugging guys. I know there are thousands of linesman working around the clock and power is the key to it all.

They even let you kill our troops for sport.

FEMA is not and has never been a first responder. Its simply not their mission. If you knew anything at all about their role in the emergency response arena, you wouldn't say that.
