I live in VT..of which I make no secret. Why that matters, I have no idea.

FEMA sucks under political appointees and tends to do well under Directors that actually have Emergency Management experience. Other than a knee-jerk reaction against all things government, why exactly does FEMA suck again?

Because they don't have a clue about individual States needs--they play by a federal oriented rule book. Romney has suggested that the money's made available to FEMA should be funneled down to individual States being responsible for doling it out as per individual States/ peoples needs. Not some fat ass sitting behind a desk in Washington that has no clue what is going on in per say, your part of Vt or my part of Upstate NY. Just more of the Feds having thier fun with control issues.

Sheeples just follow the sheppard, that's what sheeples do by nature. They are too stupid to ask the question does their leader know where the flock he is going.

Idot. FEMA is a colossal waste of money like all govt efforts except the military. Like the stupid Red Cross giving out cookies and sugary hot cocoa instead of blankets and MRE. Let's all join together and sugar load a cold starving person. Now let's all sing songs together.

No mention of privitizing in my post :( As far as Schumer goes, there's a bunch of us that will vote to get the sissy ass bum out. Yes, I think at least with State control, the people would have a better shot at results--life is far from perfect SZ, but crap, it's got to start somewhere & gettin the feds to distribute moneys where they are needed, I think would be a BETTER thing--again, far from perfect

Since we are victims of our technologies we need back up to that technology.

There can be fuel trucks that dispense gasoline, diesel. There can be trucks with drinking water, food available. There can be trucks fitted as charging stations for cell phones and such.

And people can be charged reasonable amounts of money. They need and buy these things anyway.

Maybe National Guard can do this since FEMA is complete failure.

The NG is surely equipped for all that. It's ashame it takes our inept politicians to make the call :( As soon as they get done going around with the media doing photo shoots of the fat *censored* hugging people & telling them how wonderful--they( the politicians) are, something can get rolling.

Same here, I have heard many say how much the Salvation Army has done for them. The Red Cross has become like all the other politicized organizations. AARP, Unions, FEMA, and on and on. Useless top heavy organizations that are interested in their own survival.

When my parents were flooded last year we were working 18he days. Always wet and the mud the Red Cross would come by with supplies and warm food every couple hrs. I thought they were great. Maybe it depends on the area? I did see a lot of people taking advantage of the supplies they were giving out though. That was the worst disaster I have ever been personally involved in. I hope to never be impacted like that again.
