Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Alaska stoker 140 Coal

Post by btrowe1 » Fri. Oct. 03, 2008 6:17 pm

Hello, New Yorkers,, Glens Falls checking in, Champlain coal in Whitehall ny 4 ton delivered (back in May compliments of UNCLE SAMS $1500) was $910.00, Not too bad, paid $500 a shot 2 years agho when I only purchased 2 tons at a time, New bin now holds 4ton possibly 5 but don't want to push it, (wife will raise the temp) and it will all go bye bye..

Just wanted to chime in, love this board, very informative, very helpful. Not too many of us SO CALLED coal nerds out there.

I don't exactly live in upstate,I live in Orange County. Most people here consider it upstate (for most anything north of th George Washington Bridge is upstate)but I was raised in Wayne county on the lake and moved DOWN here. I loveingly refer to the area as the "slush belt" in NY. I'm still "curing" the paint on my new stove but I figure I'll burn about 4 tons at $320 a bagged ton (I know). I'll build a bin next year big enough to hold a 20 ton load. I have a front loader to move it around. At least thats the plan. Coal stocks are running thin in the area but I found a nearby Agway selling Kimmel which seems to burn ok. If there anyone in the area burning coal let me know, maybe can swap info on the coal situation.

Hi all upstate ny members,
Rich here. just found this post and its fun to read and learn about other NYers burning coal.
Live in North Brookfield, south of Utica. have not burned any coal yet. I have a AHS 130 coal boiler on order, but not expecting it till late Jan. Have 2 tons of pea in basement ready to go. Payed $260 bagged and pickup myself from Stalens in Solsville, NY.
Can't wait to get it set up and running and watch the oil fuel gauge not move!!!! Does anyone close to my area have a working coal boiler?? sure would love to come and see it.

thanks, and glad to meet other ny members.
Rich.

hi jotuler

I live in the slate hill area orange county, I am burning pea coal, also bought a couple of tons from agway, however, I purchased 4 tons bulk from cornwall coal supply at 230 ton. It so much more convenient in bulk, handle the coal once instead of handling the bagged coal up to 3 times before it is burned.

I turned on my new ahs 130 this past saturday, and so far it is exceeding all my expectations. the ease of lighting and the heat sensor for the grate is awesome.

Tony
