I live in beautiful (most of the year) Upstate NY and am looking to chat with and learn from others in the region. I would like to talk coal prices, tonnage used, models, add-ons, etc. Please feel free to chime in and get it going!

This is my first year with my channing III and I enjoy it alot. Looking like I will burn 3 +/- this year. Bought it at Earleys Farm Store in Madison with a free ton of coal. I am actually looking for a good price for bagged rice coal now ;)

From my username you can guess where I am. I actually live in Vestal but always say Binghamton cause it's a bigger city and more known. I've got a Harman Magnum stoker and burn about 3 to 3 1/2 ton a season. Paying about 190 a ton bagged (100lbs) for rice. This is the 6th winter burning coal. :)

Fire Fighter.. I see you are from South New Berlin.. Is'nt that near Unadilla MX track?? THE THRILLA IN UNADILLA! I've been to the race a bunch of times.. Good parties up there, but it's mellowed out lately.

Hello, I am Just out of Homer, guess you could call this central upstate New York. Last coal I picked up was Blashack bagged, $235.00 a ton. Expect to burn about three tons. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

Erieville, NY About 10 miles from Cazenovia. Burning rice with a Keystoker 90 and a keystoker Koker(new 2 weeks ago). 1 week ago got 3 tons @ $200.00 per ton. I'm not sure how much rice this season, I'm guessing around 6 ton +/- to keep nice and warm.

whats up fellas?, Ive been on this website for two seasons now, I live in what I call central new york...Skaneateles Falls about 30 minutes west of Syracuse. Welcome all the new members and maybe if your coming around here we can find a place to hoist a frosty pint. I have an Alaska Channing 3 that heats my 1700sqft house all winter with no problems. As for coal I buy mine hehe mine..from Stoyell Stove Coal & Equip. in Moravia ny(315-497-2955) the sell Jeddo brand bulk or Blaschak in bags. The bulk coal is 195.00 per ton at the yard I don't know what they charge for the Blaschak. The Jeddo burns fine in my Channing although it does seem like its cracked finer than the Blaschak coal. My stove digested 5 tons last year but that was with my wife home on maternity leave and the house being about 75 degrees 24 hours a day. This year the kid is in daycare and the wife is working full time again so I hope to burn a little less. I look forward to chatting more soon and especially to NY BEAR in homer I know there are some ferral hogs down in that neck of the woods that I wouldnt mind hunting for. Jim

Greetings fellow upstaters, Tumansburg here ,central finger lakes, between seneca and cayuga 10 miles north of ithaca. New to the site and burning rice. One month old LL Hearth working out distribution issues with enthusiasm ,love the Coaltrol stat. Paid 225.00, Blaschak bagged at local dealer. I'm interested in this deep mined variety I here the pros talking about. I believe the Blaschak is strip mined.

Regards

Cosmo

I'm in western NY in the town of Bolivar on the Wirt/Alma line. Middle of nowhere basically. My kids go to Scio school. Local dealer is $200/ton bulk, $220/ton bagged.

Either it pushing too much, feed rate adjusted too high, or not enough combustion air?

Do you have a draft gauge and baro damper?

i have changed the feed rate both increase and decreased the push arm seems to have no affect , no hot ashes going off the end , have about 4 inches of ash . I have increased the air input to wide open and again no difference . I wonder if I should be useing buckwheat insted of rice . bigger coal will give me more air through the coal as its burning

Is it burning all the way across the burn plate? If you have some clogged air holes, it may not be burning completely across and just pushing some unburnt coal thru. If you can see it in the ashes, is the unburnt along the sides, top, etc....random?

Sounds like you have tried everything.

Buckwheat may burn better with better airflow, maybe mix a bit in with your rice and see what happens.
