New Hitzer 30-95

PostBy: chopper698 On: Tue Nov 06, 2012 7:01 pm

I fired up my new hitzer 30-95 last week and it runs real nice.
The only problem is the box on the back to adjust the heat doesn't
seem to be accurate. Does anyone no how to calibrate it? When
the dial is at the 12 o clock position the door is closed. It doesn't
seem to be accurate.

The dial is not at the #12 it's at the 12 o'clock
position and its like 450 degrees. I unhooked the
chain and turned the dial to zero and hooked
the chain back up with no slack in it. But now it
seems like it doesn't open up properly and after
looking underneath the box with the dial it looks
to me like it has a temperature spring in there .

Yes it does. Chopper, leave your chain adj. as is---flap closed & turn it till flap is about 1/4" open---crack your ash door vents 1/16//1/8 moon--then---let it go for a half hr or so--there is a ball park adj. for the chain of about 22 balls from bottom--biggest thing is give it time for the bi-metallic spring to do what it does---stay in touch my friend.

The temperature control is a bi-metallic spring, just like an automatic choke on a carburetor. If Fred says 22 ball of chain between the flapper and the adjustment link, that is where I would start. If the stove maintains 350-400 degrees with the dial set at half throttle, that seems perfectly fine to me.

Chopper that was a no no. The numbers on that dial mean absolutly nothing they are only a referance point. Do you have thermomters on the stove and the exhaust pipe? Upper right corner on front, and below the damper in the pipe approx 12 to 18 inches from the stove. You run the stove to what ever temp you want your house, if it takes 400* to keep your house at 72* and the dial says 9 that is the setting you use, it goes by how warm you want the house, how hot you have to run the stove to get there, and how cold it is outside. Your settings will change as the outside temps gets colder. Keep a notebook with your settings in it as you find them for the temps you want and outside temps change, you will end up with a list that you can refer back to come spring as temps start to climb and also next fall when you have forgotten all you learned this year. Keep posting how your doing and people will be there to help but don't change anything on the stove till you ask someone. There are a few things that we can tell you to do but right now lets get you settled in to burning and getting those settings written down. Use the 22 bead thing Fred talked about to get your stove back to near factory settings.

Sometimes, even new things need to be re-adjusted. Suppose the guy just adjusting it was asked for a phone call saying that the house is burning (just an example ;) ), when back on the adjustment the adjustment could need some fine tuning... Plus even on brand new things , not all parts are exactly the same. On my brand new Vig ll, I had to re-adjust the thermostat a few times to have the good setting.
Anyways, Fred is one/the guy able to drive you on the good road :) for Hitzer stoves.
