Just a quick note to remind everyone (at this late point) that today is the 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Please take a moment to reflect on the events of that day.

This is one outstanding idea. Irregardless of your political persuasion just remember these are our sons and daughters.
Any of you that have ever been in service knows what it's like being away from home during the holidays. It's our second year getting involved. I try to find someone from my old unit (82nd airborne) to help out. There are a lot of kids asking for video games and such but there are a lot of folks that are short of everyday items. Last year there was a group of LRP's (long range patrol) that were looking for gloves and long johns because they weren't issued any and freezing their a**es off. OK, getting of my soapbox now.

I'm for supporting troops more than the next guy however I'm very skeptical of any organization soliciting donation money for charity, personally I think your money is better spent finding a local organization. Preferably one run by a church or other respectable organization. Many of these charitble causes even legitimate ones end up using a lot of the money they collect for "office expenses", advertisements etc.. This includes many very large long standing organizations.

We routinely pack up boxes at a post in Meadville, what surprises me is a lot of the things they need were pretty much easy to get in V.N..
A good friend of ours has a son in the Marines, hes done a tour in Iraq, one in Afghanistan & was finally to be home for 20 days over the Holidays. Now hes only coming home for five days before the holidays then off to S. Korea. We got to get out of some of these places.
