The end of America has begun: TX & LA petition to secede

We are witnessing the end of out beautiful country. We are too divided. I suspected all along that it was only a matter of time before we start seeing secession, and this is just the start.

Pretty soon, I fear we may have to move out of necessity - NOT choice. I've always dreamed of leaving this liberal bastion anyway. In another 10 years MA will be part of the country I want no part of. That I can guarantee.

Hasn't this been tried before? I am all for it but I don't think it will go anywhere.

Maybe not ... but I have a feeling this will be contagious. What happens after that remains to be seen. There's strength in numbers, as they say ...

We lived in Houston for ten years and sometimes spend our winters there now.
Maybe we'll be going back permanently now!

Where you going to go? Be part of Mexico? I'm sure they welcome you with open arms. How about man up and be a real Patriot and work with the winner of the election for the better of all Americans. This 3 year old playing in a sandbox and taking my toys and going home seceding talk, doesn't play all that well. Had your Candidate won, you'd expect no less.

But what if the winner of the election is a turd sandwich? Do I have to help do things I don't philosophically agree with?

Constitution aside, in this post Civil War era is it even possible for a State to secede?

Any individual can secede at any time they want. If a state even can it would have to be the great majority (I would think) & I don't think there is any state that could even get any majority at all. Just because a few want to blow some smoke doesn't mean every one will follow suit.

There is no place to run, and to be honest with you, you just cannot outrun your problems.

When my ancestors came here, there was some big issues, but we fought hard just the same for the King of England during the French and Indian War, but when the Revolution broke out, we fought hard against that monarchy as well because changes needed to be made, but we did not make those changes by running. To that end my Great Grandfather died on Bunker Hill, a musket ball to the head from a Red Coat for something that was just an idea at the time, something called Democracy and we are not running now.

In 1854 we had issues with this country, serious issues the Federalist Party and my ancestors once again acted to change what was occurring, and was one of 34 legislatures to form what is the Republican Party. My Great Grandfather also ended up being the first Republican Governor of Maine, but that party is not what it was then, but rather then flee, we should be working to create something better, just as he had done.

It is true that Our country has problems, sure...but it is still the best alternative out there. We just have to create something better...is it revamping the Republican Party? Is it the Tea Party? The Libertarian Party? The Green Party? I do not know, but being part of the solution means sticking around, sticking your neck out and fighting hard to take this country in a better direction, not a separatist one.

Your right on there NoSmoke & SteveZee but it's so much easier & more fun to kick & scream like a little kid that didn't get his way, maybe some never played a sport or game of any kind & learned you can lose as well as win or maybe they just always had everything handed to them & never had to put much effort into getting what they wanted. Who knows but it shows the direction things will go if the country ever once again needs Patriots to sacrifice for the good of the country rather than oneself.
