Please Help!! Hitzer 50-93

The vent on the ash door never sealed properly and the slide didn't work well, so I cemented it shut permanently. The new manual draft knob was made by my boss; he has a full machine shop in his basement. I am pretty sure it is stainless steel.

Old thread, I know ... but, you could also go to a Harman dealer and order the spinner for a Mark 1 or Mark 2 or Mark 3. High quality and very finely adjustable. You still would have to fashion your own plate to attach the spinner to, so take a look at how it is attached to the Harman stove.

I recently bought a hitzer 50 93 . I cannot keep it going for more than about ten hours. it doesn't matter how much coal is in the stove. I have been keeping ashes out.seems to have good air flow. it is in the corner of my basement. could it be possible it is to confined and not getting enough clean fresh air.

You either have bad coal, or bad draft. It is pretty tough to get one of these stoves to go out if it has coal & air.

Do you think I may need a fresh air hose from outside run in.

Are you filling the hopper? how hot are you running the stove?

Try opening a basement window, but I don't think that is your issue.

Probably not.
Does the stove draw well with your kindling fire with a cold stove? That is, no smoke exiting the stove if the door is open.

Minimum bed depth with an established fire is 6 inches and better 8 inches.

How is intake air being controlled? Is the thermostat flap open? Do you use the air shutter on the ash door? With a dying fire what happens if you open the ash door?

A manometer into the smoke pipe would answer any question about draft and nice to have anyway. About $30.

it seems to draw well .with kindling there would be very little smoke that enters the house with door open. I use both air intakes rear thermostat is open and the bottom ash door opened. today I went down to check on it all coal was glowing nice heat. then an hour later it was out coal still solid pieces.

after I get it started I put an inch or two across the entire bottom. wait for it to get going and keep adding until I am up to the hopper. has been taking a good hour to get to there.

I am wondering if it is possible that my shaker ash plates may be upside down. I don't know if they are flat or curved. maybe holding up the ash and air flow.

You need to fill the hopper to the top. set the air vents on the ash door to they are open just a sliver, and set the thermostat know on #8. see how that works.
