On the bimetallic flap, have it open around 1/2 inch--those numbers vary depending if it's been messed with--rule of thumb is 24 balls from the hanging chain end. Where ya from--add to your avatar/profile-nobody's gonna steal ya---maybe someone is close enough to help if needed.

Could you tell us about your chimney? Has it been checked for any blockages? Does the chimney have a clean out door that could be open or not sealed well?jeff m wrote:I recently bought a hitzer 50 93 . I cannot keep it going for more than about ten hours. it doesn't matter how much coal is in the stove. I have been keeping ashes out.seems to have good air flow. it is in the corner of my basement. could it be possible it is to confined and not getting enough clean fresh air.

the chimney is brand new. triple wall stainless. the only thing I do not have is a damper inline. the stove I replaced used a powervent. I do realize I am loosing a lot from not having damper. I took the suggestions from everyone today . right now the stove is running great. thank you all.

It's not imperative for that stove to have a damper (some people run it without one) since it has the bi-metal thermostat to regulate the combustion air. The bi-metal thermostat will open and close to hold the stove temp steady. Thanks for the update.jeff m wrote:the chimney is brand new. triple wall stainless. the only thing I do not have is a damper inline. the stove I replaced used a powervent. I would not bother with a pipe damper on that stove. As long as your gaskets are in good shape the factory air control should keep the stove at a steady temperature.
