Hello all,
Hoping to make it to Harmony tomorrow and just want to make sure I'm not missing anything .
Planning to bring back 3 ton of nut (will call ahead of course). That will push me just over the class 5 (14k) license of my T-tag. I'd assume they really don't care, as long as I'm buying ...
Will take a tarp, but have read mixed opinions on whether it needs to be covered. Thoughts?
Any other tips for a smooth first visit?
Thanks,
Joe

Let's see if I understand your post.
You are planning to run over limit but don't want to be bothered to tarp the load.
Sounds to me like you are asking to have the appropriate enforcement agency take a hard look at you if you happen to meet.
Why risk a ticket and end up with a very expensive load of nut?

I second that! Don't risk it.Rob R. wrote:Yes, don't overload your rig and cover the load.jschaefer7406 wrote:Any other tips for a smooth first visit?

Wow, tough crowd here today. Did you guys get up on the wrong side of the bed or what?!? This forum is usually so friendly, turns out you guys are just like every other internet forum. Cocky and rude .
So, let me see if I understand YOUR post. I wasn't asking for your opinion on whether or not I should tarp the load, but was simply asking if they REQUIRED it at Harmony. With all of the members here overloading U-Haul trailers and half ton trucks, I can't believe for a second that I'm the only one running "over limit".
As for "overloading my rig", there's no safety issue involved. Even with the 3 tons in the bed, the truck will still be 500lbs under the manufacturer GVW. Again, was simply asking if theyd load above the REGISTERED GVW, not for opinions on whether or not I should do so...

Is that so? I spend a lot of time on this forum trying to help people with problems, stay warm, and save money. Hell I even take phone calls and send people parts & wiring diagrams to help them out. In the unlikely even that you get pulled over, in an accident, whatever...having a covered load and a legal load will be to your benefit. I didn't mean to come off cocky, but I'll stand by my recommendation. Do whatever you please with your truck and trailer, but don't make a sweeping generalization that everyone on this forum is cocky and rude.jschaefer7406 wrote:turns out you guys are just like every other internet forum. A question was asked that was discussed only a few threads down.
Uae Loading
The coal breakers and mines are not enforcement agencies. It is your responsibility as driver to determine your equipment capabilities and legalities of the road.
I only intended to point out that a minor obvious infractions such as a light out or a untarped load only invites the police to pull you over to check registration, license, etc. and take a closer look.
They are always more than happy to give out "certificates of achievement" to those people that exceed the limits of the law.

Hey guys,
I know you were just trying to help, just seemed it could have been done without the sarcastic criticism .
I also know it's not up to the breaker to enforce weight limits, but some quarries around here have been refusing to load beyond registered class. Didn't know if Harmony was doing the same, hence why I asked.
I wouldn't haul beyond the capability of the truck and risk endangering others or myself. Hope that didn't some across wrong. However being 75 miles away, if I can bring back 3 ton instead of 2 at a time, I sure will. This is my first time even coming close to the class limit, as I've only owned the truck for just over a year. I'll likely increase to a class 6 next year if this will become commonplace.
As for being open tomorrow, wrote the original post after midnight (working 12-hour night shift). To me, it was tomorrow and not today .
Thanks guys,
Joe
P.S. - Had one heck of a time finding the place. Google maps had me so lost ...

Hopefully next time .tsb wrote:Getting coal is always a fun trip.
Odd as it sounds to most (but I know you guys can relate), I was excited to make the trip at first. Then I was delayed making a few stops on the way (wanted to be there and back by early afternoon). Finally was to be there around 2, but Google Maps had me @ a Menonite Bible school of some sort . Found a few links with alternate addresses for Google, they led me on a goose chase as well. Finally found the place after about an hour of driving around Mt Carmel/Ashland. But yeah, next time should be more fun .

Yeah pics would be great.
Hope all went well and safe.
I think peeps were saying some bad stuff, since that is what can happen...they were being kind, not sarcastic.
I think it has to do with what they saw in the past.
Lots of accidents and pictures of coal haulers.
Many tickets giving and possible people hurt.
As always, do what you want and hope you can learn from the forum, I sure am.
Happy TGiving!
