In 1918 the Supreme Court defined wages as corporate profits. I'm not sure if any previous or subsequent SCOTUS ever actually defined wages differently from this. Perhaps that would be a good place for them to start before they go ahead and tax us. To me it is obvious that by permitting the government to obscure the definition of wages (by permitting the government to see them differently than the very high court itself) the SCOTUS is merely stepping aside to let the government have free reign and run roughshod here.

Jpete is hitting the nail on the head. Bad law does not become good law merely because of an inept SCOTUS. Slavery being the prime example of this, and Obamacare being the example of this in our day.

No, that decision stated that corporate profits (IE, capital gains) were ALSO wages...and later decisions expanded it to include things like lottery winnings and court awards for injuries, damages, etc.

Congratulations. You just legitimized ever vicious dictatorial government there has ever been.

As long as the government makes something "legal", it's A-OK!

I'm glad I have guys like Jefferson and Madison on my side.

You have a right to challenge the ruling. Stop paying taxes, then file a suit in Federal court based on those rulings on the definition of "income". I doubt it will work though.

Yup.

Unlike some people, I don't believe government owns everything and the people should have their money meted out.

You apparently don't mind so what are you upset about?

The federal government owns roughly 30% of the land mass of the United States, owning 50% of the land west of the Mississippi, 65% of the land west of Denver, and 84% of Nevada.

And the push is on for a much larger ownership in Maine thanks to the environuts in Boston, New York, etc. Groups such as Restore the North Woods. We have them in Maine also but they are mostly transplants. Although Roxanne Quimby was a native I believe. Obama put here on the National Park board. Because she donated don't ya know.

How much of the national debt could be paid off if the government got out of both the land ownership and the land management businesses? How many resources would be opened up to our access and use, and how much new employment and "real" wealth could be generated by this?

I'm not upset at all. I find your whole mind set towards this Country kinda funny while being pathetic at the same time--sooo, that would be pathetically funny :)

You don't like it? Take it away from me. Call your Congressman and tell him to end the Trade Readjustment Act.

People like you are the ones who convinced me that I'm not going to change the way things run around here.

Constitutional?

Since when is that a consideration in the US?

I can't beat folks who think like you, so why should I be the only one playing by the rules of the Constitution?

You're pretty convinced that government has a role in running our lives. Why can't I benefit from it once in a while?

Can't we get back to the important issues facing the country? Same sex marriage, free birth control for women, and taxing the rich.
