The owner's Manuel says the rear clearance to a combustibles is 24 inches. I would like to reduce that number. I wound use a 1/4inch cement board spaced 1 inch. Did any one do the same thing? I have search this forum and found 12 to 16 inches. Thanx, George
i used sheet metal, not cement board, spaced an inch from the drywall with the stove 12 inches away and it works fine. the drywall stays about 85* measured with a temp probe. make sure you leave a 1" gap at the bottom and top so air can freely circulate behind it.
Thanks, but I plan to decorate the cement board with thin stone with cement base adhesive. Yes 1 inch from the floor pad and 1 inch from the wall. Would the sheet metal warp due to heat? The non-combustible spacers are on the edges only. George
the sheet metal probably moves from the heating & cooling, i've never watched it too closely. cement board would probably be more stable for the tile you are planning. the spacers are on the corners and in the middle of the edges, there are none in the "field".
