Both the Harman "Mark-111" , and the "Hitzer 50-93" will crank out the heat. Both stoves are rated near the same, HITZER being a little more. I've been around both stoves during the dead of winter. The HITZER puts out a noticeable amount more heat. At least it felt like it did. At the time, I was also heating double the square footage with my Hitzer 50-93, than my uncle is heating with his Mark-111. Both good stoves. But I favor the Hitzer with it's hopper, finned heat exchanger, bi-metalic thermostat, and flat shaker grates. Myself, I'd buy the Hitzer 50-93 in a heart beat. One more thing; The stack temperature of my uncle's Mark-111 runs about 100* + hotter than my 50-93. Which is probably why the 50-93 seamed to throw more heat out into the room.Bootstrap wrote:Got a Harman mark 1 currently.
There is nothing wrong with it. However, I find that I am struggling to heat 2500 ft/sq. House is insulated well which is probably why I can do it to begin with. Its a ranch style house, stove is in the basement. 2500 ft/sq is full upstairs and basement.
They want $700 for the 50-93, comes with a blower and the hopper. Been used for a couple years. I could probably score it for 5-600. Will I get a reasonable benefit from this stove? Or am I wasting my money.

When I bought my 50-93, it was recommended by HITZER to not have ANY obstruction in pipe, meaning manual damper, reduced pipe size, etc.. I installed a manual damper for safty reasons, and took it out when I felt comfortable. It run just fine without any damper. Stack temps were in the operating range. Other members have installed manual dampers (which restrict air flow), and swear by it. Some coal stoves come with built in dampers, forcing the fumes take a longer path to exit the stove. This longer path allows more heat transfer into stove body, instead of going up the chimney. However, I don't believe the longer path is restricting flow. All I can say is; use your head, and be carefull.Bootstrap wrote:Supposedly they recommend having a damper installed, either baro or manual. Should I?
