Summit Oak 418

Was looking at this stove today. Seems to be in great condition. What would be a fair price to offer?
Thanks
Jeff

Offer them $500. See what happens. The very worst thing they can do is say "No".

One of those came up for sale up in this neck of the woods last summer. It was rusted but all there. It went for $275. That is a higher end base burner I think. Isn't the summit line the higher end stove?

Seems to be in good condition is not good enough. How are the grates and what kind? That paint is very shiny, what is it? Is the fire pot lined? Is it a straightforward oak or does it have an indirect pipe? An ash pan?

I would guess $700 to $1200 depending on the answers to the questions and whether it is the right size for you and how well you like it.

That stove has an 18 inch firepot and it is a heat producing powerhouse. I couldn't just put it in a corner and look at it. I'm sure after awhile it will tell you when it wants to be hooked up and you won't be able to resist.

Can't tell by the pix if it has a back pipe or not? It's not a base heater but as William said, it's a real powerhouse heater with an 18" fire pot. Richard brough up the most importent points and if the grates are in good shape and hopefully it has bar grates (prismatics) for that size and nothing is cracked and it's in decent shape, it could fetch $1000 to $2000 or anywhere inbetween. Again, this is dependent on condition.

fb the black finish looks to be enamel :o have not seen one with that finish looks sweet, I can't imagine putting that in my home and not using it as intended. If that is going to be a decoration send me a p.m. when you decide to redecorate :P

My concern was with the heat resistance of the paint.

I agree it looks like enamel to me also. Looks just like my Glenwood cookstove enamel on cast iron. Very durable.

My wife and i only looked at it for a short time. I am new to coal this is my 2nd season and with a Pocono its easy. I would not know how to use this stove, thats why we thought of putting it in our rec room which is a work in progress. Yes it has a pipe out the back. Boy she sure is pretty.
Thanks again Jeff

I don't mean a pipe out the back, I mean another separate pipe on the back that the exhaust flows into from the stove body. That pipe has a divider inside and a damper so that the stove can direct vent or when damper is closed, flows the exhaust down one side up and up the other before going out to a stove pipe and the flue.
