Who said anything about returning to slavery?

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Nice example of the left distorting our history. What a steamy pile of horseshit! I expect nothing less from CBS ... although it's been happening for a long time. I learned more about our Founders OUT of school than I did in. The DOE at work ...

http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferso ... -jefferson

Part of the plan, I guess - get everyone to forget the REAL history, so the government can replace it with what they decide is best. The only barrier left is religion .... and it's looking like they're getting close to conquering that as well.

I was not not talking about the slavery part and actually was being fasecious in my statement....the portion of the story that struck me was that Jefferson had many "vices", I find that true of most of our politicians today... Jefferson "allowed himself to be trapped by the economic, political and cultural circumstances into which he was born." Does not look like things have changed much is all. ;)

Jefferson was no saint. Nor any of the Founding Fathers. But the philosophy they collectively put to paper(parchment?) is about as good as it gets.

That's what I argue FOR.

I actually read some where that they were not happy with it and had intended to go back a year or two later and revamp it to make it better...but never got to it...wonder if there is any truth to that?

There are some things written about the idea that the current generation should revisit the Constitution every 9 years or so.

The idea was that dead people shouldn't tell the living how to live nor should they be able to limit their freedom through national debt!

THAT'S the past I want to return to. The one that never happened. ;)

On the contrary it is right on the money.

Home in this case means returning to the conditions of over 200 years ago when the population was mostly self supporting on farms and was not too tolerant of outsiders telling them how to live.

So why do we even bother with the Constitution? Why do government officials swear an oath to it? If the conditions which brought it into being are gone and can never be retrieved, why do we celebrate the Fourth of July?
