BTW: I think this Union is about the worst out there...

36 in this Union have been accused of spousal abuse
7 in this Union have been arrested for fraud
19 in this Union have been accused of writing bad checks
117 in this Union have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 in this Union have done time for assault
71 in this Union cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 in this Union have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 in this Union have been arrested for shoplifting
21 in this Union currently are defendants in lawsuits, and 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year.

The Union in question is actually the United States Congress.

Unions once served a real purpose in this country (many years ago) to cause companies to make safe working conditons etc. Now, lets face it, they are nothing more than a wing of the democrat party. It's funny how "Pro-Choice" democrats are until it comes to being forced to join a union.

Even withing the government itself...safe working conditions are questionable to this day...along with abiding by labor laws...

Good point Coalkirk! Funny how the left operates. They're for everything ... until it clashes with their ideology.

Odd CK, i was in the USW, UMW & the teamsters & was never forced to join any, in fact in the USW I worked with a couple of non-members that used to brag about the extra money in their pockets. Then I don't know what caused it maybe management change or some bean counter trying to make a name for himself but everybody but them & others that didn't belong got a fairly decent raise. Guess what those guys spent all their time trying to join to join for months after, when they finally got in they were considered new hires for everything except their pensions.

I had a Union guy ask me who I was going to vote for, and went down some list and it was not far into it that I said a Republican, and he started in on me. I just said listen, the Democrats have been in power in the State of Maine for 40 years, and in that time the Union went from being like 50% of the employees in this State to being 15%. Now you tell me, if the Democrats are so great for Unions, how come there are so few of us left? At this point we minds well vote for Republican's because it sure cannot get any worse. The guy did not like it, but he knew I was right and shut up. Just because you belong to a Union does not mean you support them. Most locals will keep their coffers down at election time to keep the money from going to campaigns of either side.

The Democrats are funny that they believe Big Government will save the world, but yet the only thing they will truly fight for is Abortion, saying that a Mother has the right to choose? Well what about the father? Half of that baby is his. And then there is the even bigger question...What About the Baby? Don't they have rights? And if life starts at birth, then come come they have to kill it when it is in the world.

Reading this thread was sure interesting...

I guess i'll just say that I am by far to the right on most gov policy.

I am also a proud member of a Union (CWA Local 13000).

I agree with alot of folks that say the unions "WERE" important, and I think there was a time that they really were not necessary, but I will say that in this day and age of corp greed, and the almighty dollar ruling everything, Unions really should become more important in the workplace. When the company decides to cut corners and not buy safety equipment that is an issue. A workers life is not more important than a dividend but to Corp America today... I can't say I feel they think that is true at times. I have seen this first hand in the workplace. I want to go home each night to my family.

I am happy to pay my Union dues and accept the protections the Union does offer, Especially Life Safety protections. Unions of course are not perfect, we all know this, they don't get everything they ask for like some folks seem to imply. In fact in the last 10 years unions typically have not gotten anything but lost more often than not benefits or securities they used to have.

I also will say the larger your union is the larger the disconnect is between the Union and the worker. Kind of goes with the old saying that you can't please everyone all the time. So yea, there are going to be people or groups of people in a union who hate the Union ways, Sometimes out of jealousy of senior employees, sometimes just because the Union cannot bargain what said employee desires. Remember those Senior employees have paid their dues in alot of cases. Lets face it though they don't win on everything. I know that first hand, I'm on a bargaining committee. I'm at the table. I know what goes on... I can say at least that in most cases they are doing the best they can do for their members.

As for me, I'll take the Union, I've been on both sides and at least with the Union employees have a voice in the workplace and its not entirely about saving every dollar and cutting every dollar from the actual people who make it happen every day.

Lastly I'll add that I typically always vote Republican. I know the Union wants me to vote, In most cases, Dem but I do not usually fall into those ideals on many topics. Anymore though Rep or Dem I find that neither is doing what I wish they would for America.
