If I ever decide to buy a new stove I'm buying a Leisure Line. American company and pro gun. Can't beat that in my book. Maybe they could give me a new gun with the purchase as well as some ammo  :D

That's ridiculous and the parents need to be locked up but it's hardly comparable to having a vetted trained professional in a school with a firearm. As far as I know guns are already in the local district, the local police have a small office in the building and are used to patrol it and I think they use off duty police officers too.

I asked this in a previous post, which of these weapons should be banned?

In case you missed it these are all the same weapon except the third one with some minor differences. The third one is only slightly different model...

Is it an assault weapon if it's painted black?

What if it has a bigger magazine?

If we add scope making it effective out to hundreds of yards is it military type weapon?

None of them. Fix the real problem. I always wondered how many of these anti gun people would wear a t-shirt that stated "I do not own any guns or weapons" And walk around say the city of Atlanta at night.

Living 8 miles from the school, and knowing the owner of the Newtown bus company, I can assure you that this issue is near and dear to my heart. I own several guns, an old Ithaca and a Marlin 336DL, these are kept in pristine condition and one will be passed down to each of my two boys.

This is one I don't think you have to live near to have it effect you. I have a 5yr old daughter in school. That is why I want our politicians to focus on a real fix to the issue. Not a smoke screen that gets them votes. I honestly don't know if there is a real fix, but I do know there are things that can help. Banning a certain type of metal from law abiding citizens is a distraction right now. Criminals will always find what they need. If they don't care about their own life or anyone else's life. Then criminals do not care about breaking a few gun laws. Get some things in place to minimize this from happening again. Force schools to enforce the policies that are already there. Add metal detectors and bullet proof foyers at the entrance. Then when we know are kids are safe, then if they want to attack guns that is fine we can argue that. But priorities and focus needs to be making our kids safe.

The real fix is locking up these lunatics before they do damage. In the feel good society we live in any real proposals are going to see a huge backlash. It's not as simple as locking up the mentally ill either, there was tremendous amount of abuse in the past and that cannot be repeated yet that has to be balanced with getting people that are a danger to society off the street.

How do you know who is a danger? In this particular instance, I don't believe this kid had any history of violence.

That's a very good point. Like I said it is a little more complicated than asking people to place signs on there homes, businesses and vehicles that say. I no longer have a way to protect myself so there are no criminals allowed near me by law.

History can't predict the future nor can the future predict the past...what we know today may not be true tomorrow....More guns or less guns won't change this...having a crystal ball may. The answer is always yours and if you don't have the answer... question the inevitable.

Unfortunately, that just will not work anymore. 30+ years ago my wife was a RN at state psychiatric hospital that held close to a thousand. The cost to the taxpayer was huge both in facilities, guard and nursing staff plus the medical hospital. The facility is still open but it's a fraction of it's former size. Advances in treating mental disorders with drugs has made warehousing the majority of past patients unnecessary. Today the taxpayers would never foot the bill. What's needed is a public health department run method for identifying and diagnosing the mentally ill and then monitoring them to make sure they are taking their meds. Unfortunately all state's budgets for mental health are going down and they are providing fewer services. This means the ill end up in the criminal justice system where it costs even more.

In response to "which guns would be banned" from the list.

The shotgun with the Folding Stock.. Connecticut has an Assault Weapons Ban based on the old Federal one making that banned and you'd be in big trouble.
