Just got home from work and hugged my kids. As a father of 4, this is pretty sickening news and my wife and I both have a pit in our stomachs over this.
This, sadly, begins at home gentlemen. I see it every day at work. Parents are absent or do not parent, teachers are not allowed to teach and discipline (in my day we got the paddle), and the trend continues to were they are residents of the Correctional system where they do not listen either. Parents today are pussies. The Pussification of America is alive and well, and when your children are allowed to do what they want, when they want, and are handed everything on a silver platter, THIS is how they turn out. This is what they do. They become WOLVES. So to you parents, I suggest you do your part and instill in your own children the importance of right versus wrong, winning versus losing, working versus leaching. I am not like most of you, I am not a "believer". That does not mean our children do not have morals and do not know right from wrong. We do not spare the rod. Our children tow the line and respect adults. They do not talk back, and if they try to cross the line they know there are consequences to their behavior. They are taught the value of hard work, the value of pushing themselves to new limits physically and mentally. And they VALUE human life. They are raised to be SHEEPDOGS. To protect the herd and never harm the sheep...especially the lambs. As their skills are honed, they will be taught to run towards the sound of gunfire, not away from it.
As soon as I got done hugging my kids, I explained to my older 2 what happened today. I then told them, if they ever hear gun shots in their school they need to get the hell out of the building, not huddle in the corner with the rest of the class like a bunch of sitting ducks. Break a window, crawl through a vent, just get the hell out together and dont stop running until they see me or their momma. A story I read said a young boy did that today, he grabbed his friends and ran. Dont huddle like a lamb to the slaughter. React swiftly and get the hell out of there.
Gun control is not now, nor will it ever be the answer. He could have just as easily walked into the classroom with a bomb strapped to his chest. He could have used a knife like that crazy man did in China. Gun control simply takes the Sheepdog's chance to stop such a tradgedy from happening. Why do you think these wack jobs target schools? They know no one is armed. In PA we can carry everywhere but Court Houses and secondary schools. So when the wolf comes calling on a school, he has 100s of sheep for the taking. I am a firm believer in those who have CCW's being allowed to carry to school if they want. People are quick to say you dont stop the violence with more violence. Really? How DO you stop it then? Violence MUST be met head on with swift violence. An armed gunman must be stopped in his tracks by someone who is confident, secure, trained, and ready. Yes, it starts at home. It starts with raising our kids to be MEN and WOMEN. But when that fails, when the parents fail, when that 1 wolf snaps, he must be dealt with harshly and violently. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. 1 armed teacher could have stopped the killing of many innocent children. 1 armed student at Virgina Tech could have stopped that rampage as well. Those of us who have CCWs, who carry, teach our minds and bodies to thrive in those situations. Much like soldiers on the battle field, we go over scenarios in our heads over and over and over, how we would handle it, where would we exit, how would we approach the threat. I have played out mall shootings, restaurant shootings, etc. in my head so many times it often keeps me awake at night.
I am all for tougher gun laws. As far as I am concerned, if you break the law you lose the right to own a gun. Misdemeanor or felony, doesnt matter, you have become a wolf and you lose your right. I am all for stricter back ground checks. And, I would even agree to the limiting of high capacity mags. My .45 I carry holds 7 rounds and I am confident that I only need 1. But to take completely makes no sense at all. It only empowers the wolf. It strengthens the wolf. It makes us ALL sheep.
Schools should have better plans for these issues. It isnt hard to get metal detectors, most inner city schools have them as well as guards with wands checking back packs, etc. Doors on the school rooms should be made better with a slam bar locking mechanism. At the first sign of trouble the doors are shut, the slam lock is engaged, and the escape window is popped open so everyone can get out. Huddle in the corner??? Really? A man dressed in black and carrying weapons should not be able to access a school.
Wednesday my wife and I were sitting in a waiting room at The Cleveland Clinic waiting to see my heart doctor and schedule my next surgery that should FINALLY have me back to normal and living a long, healthy life. We caught the news about the Oregon mall shooting. I looked at my wife and said, "You know, I would have had to get you guys out and safe and go back in right?" She shook her head yes. She knows I am a sheepdog and I can not sit by and let the wolf win. I run towards the sound of gunfire and once the family is safe, I am headed back into the *censored* to make a difference. Damn the consequences. I will die defending the flock. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)
To the families of this terrible tragedy, my family sends it's deepest sympathies. May you find peace in your own ways and may the spirit of your child forever brighten your life. We cannot begin to imagine your hurt, but we can share the sorrow with you and provide a shoulder to cry on.
