over oiled gear box on a AA130 ?

PostBy: BigFoot On: Sat Dec 15, 2012 12:11 pm

Today i was oiling my AA130 and the gear box that turns the blower needed some 30W so i added to the fill to bring the level up in the glass window , all was good put had some oil run out of the shaft on bought sides ,should there be seals to stop this ?i guess i could have over filled the gear box and that is what leaked out ,everything seams to be running fine just serprized it leaked ? :?:

Same thing happens on my AA 260. That is how I know it is full !!!!!!!

It will leak around the shaft and then get slung off the shaft onto the floors, and onto the auger tube, but it will wipe up.

I guess if they had seals on the shaft, you could really overfill it !!!!!!!!!!

There are no seals, the middle of the window should be level with the bottom of the bushing/shaft gap or clearance. So if you overfill the box by a little bit, it will run out. not a concern unless you get oil all over the belts.

Do you keep spare belts handy? Just a good idea, not a mandate. The fan bearing box requires slooooow filling...and only a few ounces. Take the top 4 1/4" bolts off(after cleaning the dust) and check it out. Then you will have some idea why it takes a minute to seek the proper level.....half way up the glass. :!:
