New to the forum and stoves.

Hi all, I've just joined the forum and am impressed with the wealth of information here.

A while back I started a search for a Glenwood Cabinet C like was in my Grandmother's house. I remember the stove and how nice it was to sit next to it on a cold winter's night. She heated her house with that and a kero heater in the living room. She even cooked on it even though she had a gas range. Well a couple of years ago I found one just like it. I've been really busy at work and moved so have not had time to work on it.

A couple of days ago I stumbled on a Craig's List ad for a Glenwood Modern Oak 118. After himing and hawing I went to look at it and bought it. Ya think I'm hooked?

Now I'm the proud owner of two Glenwoods. The Cabinet C needs more work than the Oak 118, but the Cabinet C isn't as bad as it looks in the picture. But I can't wait to get them both in working condition. If this working for a living stuff gets out of the way maybe I can get these rebuilt. I'm really anxious to get started.

I'll probably be lurking around this forum learning things so I do it right. I'm a furniture maker and antique restorer so this metal stuff will be a nice change. I love bringing old things back to life. The just don't make them like they used to.

Welcome aboard Al. Gorgeous pieces of equipment you've got there. I know what you mean about having to work for a living. Such a waste of our valuable time
I've had a couple of slightly older Trans Am on the back burner for yrs. But I did get my Surdiac stove hooked up last season, and with the advice from these fine people on this site, am trying (and succeeding) to get it fine tuned. Good luck on your restoration. Maybe if I'm lucky, you'll feel like selling me your "reconditioned" pot belly in a few yrs.

Welcome, it looks like you have a couple nice stoves to do restorations with. I am hoping someday to join you and others here that have that style cook stove, so make sure to take and post a lot of pictures when you restore these in that good looking shop .

What car is under the cover there ?

Joeq, I like the 4th gen Trans Ams real well, a Red 02 WS6 Vert with 28k miles found its way into my garage , 1 of 219 made, I would like to know how many are left out there.

That car under the cover is a 1975 Monte Carlo. I got it when I graduated from college. It was only driven in the snow for two winters. It's in pretty good shape except where the mice had a feast on the headliner. It hasn't been driven in years so mechanically it will need some work. Another "some day" project.

Those damn mice love headliners for some reason .... They made a MESS of my '72 El Camino's headliner - that was the only perfect part of the car too. Was soooo pissed. Ended up selling it last year against my better judgement. Should've sold my '07 Silverado instead ....

SWEET car you've got there - that year is in the range of my favorite Monte's because they were so big. Ride beautiful - nothing today can touch them there.

I spy a SKI of a snowmobile next to that stove! I hope it's a 2-stroke .....

Two beautiful stoves. That 118 is the biggest of that model. If the fire pot is not already lined be sure to do that.

Does it have swivel seats ? I always thought those were just too cool . Dryer lint sheets work well to keep mice away, just an fyi. Very nice to hang on to car that long, I'm like Smitty, sell them and wish I wouldn't have .

When do you think you will start the restoration and which Glenwood will you begin first ?
I just did a Glenwood No 6, sent the nickel off for replating and with the Holidays I should have it back late January. I am working on building my hearth now. Between the wife, work, and the Holidays I haven't been able to spend a lot of time on it lately but I was able to make some progress today.

The fire pot is lined and in good shape. The only things this stove needs is new coal grates and the vertical vent pipe in the back is not there. I don't think it ever was since where the shelf to hold it would go there is a factory cover. This stove must have originally been set up as wood only, except the wood grate is missing. My understanding is the vent pipes with the baffle and damper are hard to find.

I ordered the Monte Carlo when I graduated in the fall of 1974, it's a 1975. It's silver with maroon landau top. I does have the swivel bucket seats with custom cloth interior. Power windows, cruise, tilt wheel, a/c, and most of all AM/FM with 8 track hidden behind the dial. I too think this generation of Montes were the best, and the '75 was the best looking of the bunch.

I'll probably restore the 118 first since that needs the least work. In between paying work.

There were two snowmobile in there when the pict was taken. They are my son's, both Polaris. Way too fast for me. The slower one will do 107 on a hard packed plowed road. Never tried the fast one.

You have a Modern Glenwood Oak 118 with an indirect back pipe. This is a superb stove to burn coal in. You are also in luck perhaps, because some people here on the Forum have made back pipes and the baffle for their Glenwoods. It's not that hard. Maybe someone would be kind enough to put the thread up about the back pipe fabrication.

I suspect his stove never had it since the bottom portion is not there. Easy enough to determine because if it had it the skirt piece for the back will provide room for it. The stoves were sold either way.
