So, I'll ask again, should he die on the hill of defending that which he believes works or move along to someplace more in line with his beliefs?

Jpete, you nor I are the Gov. but the We I was referring to is the majority of all that can express our dissatisfaction's at every school board meeting & if enough make sure We contact every Rep. We have in all forms of politics & at the voting booths then We can make a difference & yes if We do it the right way & work together then We are the Gov. but it takes a We.

Congress' approval rating is 11%. How much more disapproval do we have to show?

My wife has 3 cousins who were home schooled.

The two older ones went to a Christian School for the first 3-4 years, but then the school did not quite go along with the parents and so they pulled them out and started to home school them. The littlest by then had grown up and just merged into home-school having never been to any school.

By 8th grade the older kids ran away from home and never did get their GED's, much less much of an education. But the youngest was interesting; she decided that she wanted a normal life and wanted to go to school. In a months time she was overwhelmed by it all. She was not use to the girls gossipy talk and the boys cruel statements, so she went back to home-schooling. In high school she tried it again, but had the same experience and just dropped out of school all together.

They are good kids, but if their dad was not well off (4 Hummers, massive house and his own helicopter) and did not keep them all employed, they would be in really sad shape.

Myself, I was married to a 5th grade school teacher and while her liberal ideas and my conservative ones were often at odds, it is surprising how much they love doing what they do. Even she said that today teachers are not allowed to teach the important stuff like math, science and history, but when they go to limit the kids time at music, chorus and band; the music industry and performing arts lobby's the government to stop. The only real answer (and this was coming from a teacher) was to make the school day, and year, longer so they could fit more in.

The current senate, president and congress are a pathetic excuse for government. I thought we already established that.

Just have to keep on plugging & get rid of them election by election, the school boards around here meet monthly just like my township & I try not to miss any if I can help it but it takes an effort from many, one thing for sure is itching about something here ain't gonna do anything.

I don't want to get this too far off track, other than to dispel the notion put forth in the media that somehow home schooling was a component to this tragedy.

Here I thought we were talking about an egotistical teacher whose basis seems to be, my way is right & all these other ideas are obviously inadequate, kinda reminds me of you jpete, which is why you seem to be so impressed with him. Die on any hill??? I suppose it comes down to how sincere your convictions are. Sorry for missing the fact that you are in a combat mode as usual.If ya run far enough & long enough, you're bound to come up with someone that believes that your way is the RIGHT way. I personally wish the guy well & can only say that now he won't be spreading his negativism in your school district.

But he doesn't "believe" his way is right. He has empirical data to show that in some cases, his way works for certain students.

You are attributing things to him that he did not say.

Not that he was in my city anyway, but my "school district" is my living room so I don't really care what he does.

I just thought someone who had 15 years in the trenches might know more than me. Clearly he doesn't know more than you. I'm curious as to why you think you are an expert in everyone else's lives but that seems like a diagnosis above my pay grade.

I'm far from an expert in this area, but I have over time learned to take the cotton out of my ears & listen to other peoples thoughts/ideas without thinking I am being personally attacked--that almost seems like simple paranoia. I hope that diagnosis falls within the realm of your pay grade.
