Some kind if AA defense would be preferable, even better a Cobra gunship would follow the bus to school. Congratulations, you have just pointed out the obvious. we cannot secure a free society from all mayhem. This argument does not work on Liberals or non gun people that think we have to DO SOMETHING!
After several years of no school shootings, they would be cut from tough budgets. But the money would have been wasted here instead of there. See Egypt in today's news. Lets send the Muslim Brotherhood some f-16's.
If we are going to do something, why impact law abiding citizens instead of criminals? Really boys, the criminals and insane really don't dare what you do or think.
And I didn't see your solution in response. But, as you come from or spent 20+ years in the UK and I have debated this with my acquaintances from across the pond, I know your solution. Get rid of them all. Not possible in a country this big and well armed, and against our guiding Constitution. Sorry.

Yes, I grew up in the UK at a time when the police were only armed with trungeons (night sticks) and I honestly can't remember a policeman getting killed. However, if you search my posts you will not see any reference to banning guns. I would like to see more teaching personal responsibility, moral govt and many other things. You will also note I have a big mouth so if I felt that way I would not hold back. Now I have the opportunity to own a gun and even have very limited military training (compulsory after WWII). .303s and bren guns were fun. However, If I need protection I will call the police. Make of that what you will.

Perhaps but those bren guns were dogs. Fire a few shots... change the barrel... fire a few more, not too many now, the thing overheats. I could not win a war with the girl scouts that way. However, the .303s were real accurate at long range. Fix bayonets... gimme a break. Could have been, should have been, a Bizely competitor but I fell in love with a vets daughter and the downward spiral began.

Well PA guys, go buy your guns if you feel you want them. I think guns in the hands of the populace are a good thing. I have good home security and do not feel the need for a gun but I strongly suspect the country folk around here could fight the Taliban with their weaponry - over the top and it's in no database I know of. I feel protected as if those criminal elements think they can come out to the country and steal what they want they are in for a "lead" welcoming party.

However, you do have issues. UK chances of being killed by a gun is 1:1,000,000 but here it's 1:30,000. So you need to work at keeping guns away from the criminals and crazies a little harder. That is what CT taught us all. We don't trust govt so we want a good defense. That issue is a DC problem and is not being dealt with (polite understatement).

This is America.There are problems with any form of government. Ours works well when done properly. We here in America decided over 200 years ago we did not like the UK government. It may be close to becoming time when we as Americans again need to push back against government. That my friend is the whole purpose of the 2nd amendment. To protect the people from the tyranny of government.The words "of the people ,for the people" are getting lost by the government. Our government was not set up to control the people. It was set up to allow them to live and thrive.( ok my morning rant is done)

Also on Wiki, the US rated tenth at 10.2 per 100,000. This is not 1 per 30,000. That statistic was for 2009 but rates have been dropping. Yes it is higher, but it was for all types of gun deaths including accidents and suicide.

This one has the Us 13th and most of the deaths are suicide. Only 3.72 are from firearm related homicide. It does not break it down to long gun/hand gun. We know the percent of long gun would be very low.

As i recall, the UK was looking at banning the glass pub glass as they were being used as weapons in fights. I guess they will ban fists in pubs next. And we are led to believe the Europeans are just less "cowboy" then us because they have "been around" longer. (Pointed out by German friend) Seems they need to evolve some more by the looks of their violent crime rates.

I recall being told by a young UK student that the US only came in and mopped up the Germans and took credit. The Brits did all the heavy lifting. You can imagine my response. PC speech is not my strong point.
