Fuller & Warren Champion Oak 16

Hi, new user here.

I have what appears to be the same stove only #116 rather than #16. It's a bit plainer and also with no trace of chrome. I have a similar issue with one of the long grates burned in two. The others seem fine from what I can tell. Otherwise the stove is complete and I do want to get it up and burning for this coming season. So... did anyone connect with a source for grates for this stove? If worse comes to worse, I have the means to make a pattern for one but will have to find the time. Thoughts?

Welcome Gary.

Try sending a pm to member Wilson Mull, his screen name is "wilsons woodstoves". Or, call him at, 508-763-8941. He's been restoring antique stoves for 30 years and has a lot of parts stockpiled.

Many of these old oak stoves were copied by the competition. Sometimes the grate bars from one make of stove will interchange with another make. He might have grates for that stove, or ones that interchange.

So, no one was able to come up with any existing grates. As it seemed to work for others in the forum, my resolution was to have new ones cast by a foundry. I took the good long grate and added to it using epoxy paste such that it would work as a pattern for either of the long grates. This I sent to a foundry and had two cast. The results were highly satisfactory and after some judicious grinding I now have the two new long grates in the stove in addition to the two original short ones and am back in business.
