HC not that it's possible but even if you could eradicate all guns form our society it is not going to prevent these incidents. There is common thread whether it's 19 people armed with box cutters, 1 guy armed with fertilizer and diesel fuel or someone armed with a bushmaster rifle. They all decided to kill a lot of people and went out and did it. If you look at the last three people involved with these shootings they were all intelligent people, a lunatic with intelligence is by far the most dangerous person in society.
Days before this incident Lanza tried to purchase weapons and was denied because of gun control laws. While it's important to point the gun control laws failed the more important thing to note is the premeditated intention of this individual. If Lanza was unable to get guns do those intentions change? He may have been less successful without guns or may have been more successful but that is all speculative. I was asked by someone on the anti gun side of this debate "If you ere going to kill a bunch of people would use a knife or bushmaster" and my answer was neither.
Every person who bought a gun today, added to the "lottery of death"
Guns are objects just like planes, automobiles, axes, knives etc. They only become weapons of death when the person behind them uses for that purpose. I know the next argument is we have done a great deal to prevent plane hijackings but the first thing I'll point out is look at what has been given up to achieve that. The more important point is that is an illusion of safety because while we're spending a great deal of resources guarding against that ever happening again some lunatic is devising a way to use some other instrument of death.
The bottom line is this, as long as these people exist in our society these things are going to happen.
