I have heard of people getting arrested for medical reasons but that takes the cake.

Follow the money. It's not a MASSHOLE issue, it's federal courts that made the rulings. And it's not a LIBERAL thing or a CONSERVATIVE thing, at its root it's a MONEY thing. There's a document used by mental health practitioners called the DSM -- Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. The DSM defines the conditions, symptoms, and so on that lead to specific diagnoses of mental "illness". The DSM defines Gender Identity Disorder and apparently this person fits the definition. Sort of like a medical textbook would lay out the diagnosis of whether you do or don't have pneumonia. Well, if you have pneumonia and you are in jail, the system would be required to give you antibiotics. Apparently the same logic applies here -- once there is a diagnosis the system is required to provide treatment. Not saying I agree for one second, just explaining how I think the court arrived at its decisions.

The law doesn't seem to recognize common sense. The DSM basically keeps the psychologists in business, by defining a huge array of conditions that "require" treatment. If insurance companies are required to pay for treatment (in many places they are) then the more conditions require treatment, the more money goes to the mental health industry. Incidentally, that includes the pharmaceutical industry, which profits mightily by encouraging new diagnoses that they just happen to have drugs for, "proven" to help by some half-baked bought-and-paid-for "study". if your child or spouse or parent dies, and you are unhappy for a few months, the DSM used to say you were experiencing grief. The newest version of the DSM says your grief is a "depression" treatable by pills, so go ahead and file that insurance claim! How's that for progress?

I do not see the correlation to Liberals, and the article mentioned, at least not to the point of hating, a particular class of people. liberals do not hate conservatives,and assume that they are all ignorant, short sighted, violent, angry, no common sense, easily fooled, easily scared beings. certainly not all of them fit that description, conservatives are not being blamed by liberals for all of the gun violence and deaths, even though gun crazy is from the right side. note, Newtown funeral costs will exceed $700k, if that makes some feel better.

I do believe this is the "slippery slope" that conservatives have warned the nation about for years, and oh how the sheer stupidity of it is so powerfully personified here!

Wouldn't it be better for the Governor of MA to just pardon him-her at this point for time served?

He-she has been in prison for 22 years already costing the tax payers 2 million in costs based on a per prisoner cost basis anyway; and his-her M.O. is strangulation. If he-she is a cross-dressing he-she, wouldn't it be very unlikely that he-she could do that again since he-she would be cross-dressed balancing in 4 inch stiletto heels? Trust me, I have seen this before; (the following part, not the transvestite-balancing-on-high-heels-to-strangle-someone part) it is all my wife can do to walk/stagger/waddle to the car in her high heels when we go out on our dates. Let's just say there is not a whole lot she can do wearing high heels, and definitely strangling someone to death would not be included in that. I figure after 22 years in prison he-she would have a hard time readjusting to civilian life and would be at the red light district in West Boston anyway turning tricks as a transvestite prostitute as he-she tried to earn up the cash to have the sex-change operation done, putting him-her well out of harm of the general public.

California did this to a serial killer once. The man had ran to Canada and was in jail there and yet Canada did not want to extradite him back to California to face multiple-murder charges because the death penalty was being imposed. After years of trying, they finally called Canada's bluff and said, great, you keep him. Within 24 hours he was on a plane and headed back to California to court.

When there is a National Tragedy, as a society we are obligated by morals to properly lay them to rest.

I do not think a convicted murder who has already exceeded 2 million in costs to MA taxpayers, and who wants a sex-change qualifies as a National Tragedy.

Last time I looked a bullet was around $.21 for my assault rifle. I'd be happy to donate a full stripper clip of 10 to put that guy out of our misery. Nothing more than what should have been done in the first place.
