Cuomo Hinting at Confiscation of Weapons in NY

People worried about this are just gun nuts right?

In the interview, Mr. Cuomo did not offer specifics about the measures he might propose, but, while discussing assault weapons, he said: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

Cuomo is an ass. Confiscation could be an option? How in the hell do you confiscate a weapon from someone who has it illegally? I agree Smitty, the revolution will begin. Lock and load. Of course, I always am.

Well first you make them illegal to possess and give the owner X amount of days to either turn it in or face jail time. Banning weapons not yet in existence is one thing but this is a whole other dynamic. If NY doesn't pass such legislation it wouldn't surprise me if it pops up somewhere else like California. That will most certainly be heading to SCOTUS and if any of the recent decisions are an indication it will go down in a ball of flames.

Realistically the only way they will ever make a dent is to use some backdoor legislation like banning lead or making it impossibly expensive to own a gun. The other option would be to push for repeal or modification of the Second Amendment. I'd welcome that because it would fail miserably and end this debate once and for all, that won't happen in our lifetimes.

Overall at most what I expect to happen is some modest proposals, background checks at gun shows etc. Feel good legislation.

Didn't Hitler do this before sending people to work camps and ovens?

Don't be to sure about this. At least 51% in this country think socialism is a good way to go. The thought of a constitutional convention scares the crap out of me.

I posted in a thread called "Support Gun Control ?" everyone should see this video. 30 minutes in it shows how gun control got started in this country.

They would need 3/4 of the states to make that happen, no?

If it were only Democrats voting they wouldn't have the votes, I can safely say there isn't a Democrat legislator in this area that would support repeal because they would get lynched and and most of the lynchers would be other Democrats. This is one issue where the politics go out the window. You might get some support for laws but changing the constitution is a whole other ball game.

I would hope so. If left up to New England, IL, & CA, we're all going to become instant felons.

You need a 2/3 vote in either Congress or by the State legislators to even get a proposal on the table, that has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states.
