Hi guys , quick question about starting a Hitzer rice coal furnace. My dad has it and I never been around many stoves with a COALTROL on it. seems to work good but when you go to light the stove having some issues getting going. Seems to me there is no way to turn FR (firing rate) down to start stove ... shoves all the hot fire off the place too soon. I unglugged the feed motor so it wouldnt feed so much but gotta be easier way right ?

I've had that same problem. Set the override temperature on the thermostat a few degrees under the current room temperature. Seems to me it works better if you set the thermo down a few minutes before you start your fire, I think it gives the feed rate a chance to slow down as it doesn't seem to happen immediately..
