What"s going on in this country?

My condolences to all the family of those touched by this sick deed. Fire fighters know they have a risky job, but this sort of evil shouldn't be part of the risk.

Now on the radio this morning, it was a Bushmaster " assault rifle". It went from hunting rifle to Bushmaster over the holiday. The 2nd amendment is in for a fight.

Regarding the comment about religion...Most don't know that the Bible states that the only true religion is to care for widows and orphans.

our U.S government, through it's military, kills thousands of people around the world, yet when it comes to doing the same to the thousands of life term convicted criminals in prison that we tax payers have to support, we take a more sissy approach, and coddle them with "rights". guv. luvs criminals, because it is a business for them. prisons take tax money and put it into select few pockets, and we get hardened violent people coming back to the streets every day.

not in pa life means life...believe it or not its cheaper to give a life sentence than execute...

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. We are getting better at keeping the violent ones locked up, but every now and then one slips through the cracks. Part of my job is to stop that right at the beginning of the parole process...that is one of the reasons I love my job. I take it very seriously and when I interview you and spend 4 hours digging through your files, you had better be reformed and you had better be able to convince me that you are worth it. My job is on the line.

The last yahoo that got out and killed that off duty police officer was a mess. That fell on parole though, and at least 3 people lost their jobs over it.

Do you work "in the business"? It is not cheaper. Inmates age, from the jump it costs right around $33,000 a year to keep them locked up. As they age and get age related diseases, those costs triple or quadruple. Life sentences are dumb and cost us, the tax payers, billions. We are one of 3 states where life means life. And we are paying out the nose for it. The prison that houses the sick ones, the ones that have cancer and kidney failure and Aids, those inmates are costing us $200,000+. If we did it quickly like Texas, get them found guilty, get them setenced, and get them exicuted within a short period of time, then we would save a TON of money. We are a soft state when it comes to that and have nearly 250 inmates on death row!

All states should be 20 to life for murder. Just because they are eligible for parole in 20 doesnt mean they will ever get it. Think Charles Manson. He is up every year and every year they say no. However, the 18 year old kid that walked into the store to rob the place and his codefendent kills the clerk doesnt diserve to die in prison and cost us millions. Any death that occurs during a felony in PA is automatic 2nd degree murder and LIFE sentence. So even if you are the wheel man, if someone dies, you won't see freedom.

This will change eventually. It will have to. We can't continue to lock them up and throw away the key because if we do, we will be in the same situation as CA.

One that comes to mind is George Banks

George Banks killed several people. He diserves the death penalty, but will die an old man in prison costing us hundreds of thousands of dollars in the event that he gets cancer or heart disease, etc.

I'll answer your original question Sam. What's going on in this country, at least in this case, is that murder is no longer murder. Kill your grandmother with a hammer, go to jail for 17 years, convince some limp wristed liberal shrink that you are "cured" and get released from jail. Give someone like this a second bite at the apple and they damn well will take it. This piece of excrement should have been executed for his original crime. And there was a time he would have been but again liberal do gooders have pushed and pushed to do away with the death penalty. It's like every other "well intentioned liberal agenda", it's all about feeling good and not thought through.
