That started about 2 miles from my house where I grew up. I was young. No one that I heard ever blamed the gun.

CK, just wondering how you know that the shrink was liberal, are all shrinks? Why is it that everything that you deem irresponsible is because of some liberal & no where along the line did a conservative have the opportunity to right those wrongs. Certainly throughout history some conservative somewhere at sometime just may possibly have made a mistake. Nah, never mind it could never have happened for some minds & that sir is the root of many of our nations problems, the failure to take responsibility or admit to mistakes. What a wonderful world you must live in. :(

I'll answer your original question Sam. What's going on in this country, at least in this case, is that murder is no longer murder. Kill your grandmother with a hammer, go to jail for 17 years, convince some limp wristed liberal shrink that you are "cured" and get released from jail. Give someone like this a second bite at the apple and they damn well will take it. This piece of excrement should have been executed for his original crime. And there was a time he would have been but again liberal do gooders have pushed and pushed to do away with the death penalty. It's like every other "well intentioned liberal agenda", it's all about feeling good and not thought through.

Actually, murderers typically have the lowest recidivism rate.

Released prisoners with the highest rearrest rates were robbers (70.2%), burglars (74.0%), larcenists (74.6%), motor vehicle thieves (78.8%), those in prison for possessing or selling stolen property (77.4%), and those in prison for possessing, using, or selling illegal weapons (70.2%).
Within 3 years, 2.5% of released rapists were arrested for another rape, and 1.2% of those who had served time for homicide were arrested for homicide.

From what I have seen, this is often because murder happens as a crime of passion, or as part of a crime. Like I said before, here in PA, if you commit a felony and someone dies, you get life without parole. So you can not even have a gun in your hand, just take part in the robbery and your codefendent does the killing and you are still going down forever. I have seen many law abiding citizens without a single glitch in their records and with good jobs and college educations snap when they found their wives in bed with another man and in that 30 seconds of rage, did something they will regret forever. I have seen MANY military men get into a drunken brawl that ended with someone getting killed and they get a 40 year sentence. It happens that fast. Never say never. There is a difference between murder where someone broke into a house and killed the people inside, then robbed the place and the 18 year old kid who drove his buddy to the store not knowing he was going to shoot the clerk or the husband or wife who snapped after catching their cheating spouse.

No, the ones that keep getting out and coming back are the leaches, the people who commit crimes that leach off of someone else: burglary, robbery, thiefs. People who do their crimes to make a living.

Interesting that you didn't challenge my assertion that liberals have been responsible for eliminating the death penalty, only that the shrink was a lib. Well only a bleeding heart would think a person who turns his grandmothers skull into a pile of mush with a hammer should be given a chance to walk free ever again. And I don't know any bleeding heart conservatives.

You asked what's going on in this country in the context of why did this loon start fires and then shoot fireman. The answer is some bleeding heart (read liberal) let him out of jail. The only way a conservative would have let him out would be in a body bag.
Oh and it was a wonderful world I used to live in but the libs are ruining it. :P

hate the world Conservative

Hate the world yes but how do you make him a conservative (that is by definition a political and social philosophy that promotes retaining traditional social institutions. A person who follows the philosophies of conservatism is referred to as a traditionalist or conservative) ...... only in the mind of a liberal. Which planet do you come from as everyone from Earth knows that, whoops, I forgot about Sam?

Didn't a republican Gov. sign the parole release for Spangler 6 mos. after he was denied parole? I believe that's how it works anyhow.
