If you won a TT of coal where you you get it from?

PostBy: Joeski On: Fri Dec 28, 2012 9:23 pm

So lets say there was a raffle and your prize would be a 22 ton load of coal, the hard stuff :) . Sorry soft coal burners. Where would you pick to get your prize and why? Which mine, ash color, anything you want to include please do. I'm hoping this will teach me something

Thank you for your time and input.

I'd simply ask for a complete load of Blashak. I've used it for the past three years and it works really well for me. Now, if I won that much coal, I'd also ask the prize giver to deliver it to me!! I don't get into ash color and other issues too much. It's enough effort for me to get coal here in the U.P. of MIchigan as it is, and since Blashak works for me, I'm not too picky!! :D

I don't usually get cranked up over coal sources, but based on the TT loads I have gotten, and feedback from others...a load of Jeddo, Lehigh, Gale, Blaschak, or Meadowbrook coal would be fine with me.

But I would get 22 tons from Black Thunder Mine in Wyoming. It is poor coal I know, and must be soaked in diesel fuel to get it to burn, but I have been to the mine for an in-depth tour, watched 7 trains a day come out of that mine for years while I worked for the railroad out there, and always wanted to try burning it. It would be a challenge, but with 22 tons of free coal, I would have the ambition and financial motivation to build a coal stove that would work with that type of coal. It would take me years to burn it, so by then I would get a good grasp on burning bit coal, and after burning anthracite for 17 years, I am ready for a new coal burning challenge.

I could say for sure it wouldn't be Newport :P I be happy with Jeddo,Lehigh, Cassa and Blaschak. As for the color of ash, not to concern of it. Proper size coal a plus.

This is a good question. I will be in that boat next year.

People are talking good about Lehigh, but tell me more.

Now they are selling less than TT loads, I may get a ton to test burn.

If the rumors are true, UAE may be out of the picture.

It would be UAE for me. If I had 22 tons of that I could put off my bellyaching and moaning over the loss of Uae for about 7 and 1/2 years.Thats a great thought. Mike

I'd blend it from several sources. They are all just fine, some may be a little better or worse than another, but it is all good stuff. It's like the Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan thing. 'Run what you have.......'

i would want the TT(tractor-trailer) load of coal thats in raffle not the tri axle load of coal. I would supply the Trailer for the tractor to pull. should be able to load 62000 pounds in it. :dancing:

I'd have to go with UAE after all the good things I've heard of it on here.

I've been getting SCREWED with these goddamn rocks this year! Dumped the fire on New Year's Eve, on my way out the door - of course. Got a rock jammed. Should've left it, but I tried to break through it, which sometimes works. Well not this time. :mad3:

That's the 10th time in the past 2 seasons. In the prior 5 seasons I had dumped a fire twice burning Kimmels. Kimmels was always rough to shake down. Blaschak was always a soft powder ash ... up until '10, when I decided to buy 14 pallets of it.
