When the stoker runs it will do a little flutter when the blower first starts, as if you were to bump it closed with the flick of a finger, but it quickly returns to its partially open position. At times it may move back and forth but never fast, its just a smooth motion. The only time it shuts quickly is when I open the ash door or open the fire door because this breaks the draft. I am using a Fields RC.

That is how it should work, when the fan starts, the firebox will go to positive pressure initially and then return to a negative draft as the chimney catches up to the increased air flow.

If there is a way to install this in my 8" pipe I'll buy it.

Not sure about the 7 but the 8 and 9 inch can be put on 1 inch larger and smaller pipe. All the dampers I bought came with a T mounting piece. In other words you attatch it on a strait piece of pipe, it is a make your own T and is easily put on the larger and smaller pipe sizes. The only problem is if you have a good draft you may not be able to maintain the draft setting you want with a smaller damper than the diameter of your stack pipe.

I bought it, for $15 it's worth a try and the manual says it can fit 6,7,8" pipes. The 8" ones are $85 at the hardware store

I installed the field controls RC damper tonight and sealed off the old one, the new damper works great. It adjusts the draft accurately and smoothly, no more scratching my head.
