Manometer Loaner Program

Hi Dick, remember, this is a 'Science experiment' no usefull information for at least several months of study !!

Just swap the hose to the other port on the meter so it reads on the right side of the meter,, this will give you a much larger, expanded scale to read the draft on..

Keep watching the readings. record the outside temp and the winds from the weather channel.. and we'll try to find out if you really have a steady draft or not.

Nice to have the stove going again. It will be going down into the 40's at night now so I may just keep it idling from now on. (if we get back into a warm spell, I'll shut it back down though)

What would be an ideal/good manometer reading for a chimney about 24-26' high?

My normal readings, so far are right around .03 going up to a max. of .07 during reloading with ash door open & fire pretty lively.

53* outside, Mag stove temp 150*, manometer reading .02

Have the the TLC full now but just idling. Manometer is reading between .02 &.03.........Full stove doesn't ssem to have changed things at all. Still very low manometer readings??

I'm amazed that your stove burns without problems with that low draft.. lets see what it does when the fire is cranking, the temp is in the teens and the wind is howling.

I'm guessing that my chimney is no longer air tight (I do have the outside clean out sealed) & getting air from somewhere, but I'm not going to complain in that I can keep (even fairly cool) fires burning & my coal usage is low. I'll keep posting my readings but, so far I have not seen any change due to a full coal load now. (It's sill pretty mild out so I haven't had the fire on anything but idle yet)

I am not regeristing a draft on my stove pipe at all. i have take readings at 3 different points on my stove pipe and at a temp diff from 100F to 200F and still nothing. when i put the hose parallel to the airflow from my blower it registers aboutn .1 in/water. i do go from a 6in pipe to an 8 in could this cause enough of a velocity decrease to register no draft? i even got on the roof and felt very little air movement or heat. my chimney is close to 30 ft from the exit of the stove to the top of the cap.

Is the loaner program still in operation. Just completed install of New Yorker boiler and need to set draft. Thanks in advance. Steve

yes if you PM matthaus he will set you up. i currently have one and it is working good i just set the baro damper at.02 and have a decent draft now. at all different heat levels of the stove pipe.

I received matthaus's loaner manometer yesterday. I wasn't sure how to hook it up with just the one hose with a metal nipple . I contacted matthaus and he said to attatch a ball inflation needle at the end of the hose and insert it in one of the screw holes in the stove pipe between the stove and baro; it worked out perfect. Thanks matthaus.

These are the readings I got.

Outside temp: 30
Wind: none
Baro set at .06

Idle reading:
magnetic thermometer on stove pipe: 100
Manometer W.C.: .025
Baro was 1/4 open

Open draft reading: (forced draft blower)
magnetic thermometer on stove pipe: 225
Manometer W.C.: .03
Baro was 1/2 open.

do these reading seem normal or should the baro be set for more draft.
