I thought this was a coal forum?

I thought this was a forum for talking about our coal stoves and things associated with them. Does everyplace need to be a soapbox?

While the main focus of this forum now is coal it didn't start out that way. Keep in mind the other forums is what keeps a lot of people coming back.

This is prior to the nepacrossroads.com domain and from nepadigital.com/bb/

October of 2004. The forum marked coaldelivery.com with one post would be the initial start of the "Coal Forum".
http://web.archive.org/web/200410241918 ... al.com/bb/

October 2005, 32 topics and 123 posts in the "coal forum" which pretty much is the entire activity of the whole thing:
http://web.archive.org/web/200510040351 ... al.com/bb/

December 2006, by this time the focus moves to coal:
http://web.archive.org/web/200612131833 ... al.com/bb/

August 2007,...
http://web.archive.org/web/200708151532 ... al.com/bb/

November in 2007, big changes as we've moved too phpbb3 and the off topic section appears. The decision for the off topic section was because of a lot of off topic stuff creeping into the coal topics which still happens.
http://web.archive.org/web/200711070854 ... al.com/bb/

Hold onto your hats in 2008 we move to Nepacrossroads.com
http://web.archive.org/web/200809070259 ... roads.com/

That reminds me, been a while since there has been any major changes, time to make some to piss people off.

Fred nailed it. If you don't like the other discussions, don't participate in them. I spend a lot of time on this forum, but it is a rare event that I even bother to read (much less reply) to any of the political threads.

all internet forums/communities to some degree veer into different conversations and subject matter, This is a "community" of people who have one "common" element (Coal) BUT over time relationships and friendships are built... just like when your at a fundraiser to benefit cancer (you meet people and talk about many things to be social, build a re-pore and have fun). Having said all this though... It is up to the forums admin/moderators to define how far they will allow folks here to become friendly with each other and how far they will allow folks to dive into unrelated subject matter (Richard is a very active and wise admin. and typically they will want people to feel comfortable and friendly and allow them some degree of latitude here BUT if they see a 1 post member come in and immediately start off topic or unrelated threads they would be shut down.... If a senior member or known contributor does it then its a little different and that member should be allowed to enjoy his/this community)... its a very fine line and distinction that admin's and mod's NEED to deal with on a daily/weekly basis (to determine who is posting for the soul purposes of advertising, linking to their own cause, etc. with no intentions of becoming part of this community). I hope this helps people make the distinction between what should be allowed and what should not be allowed and why Richard may allow some degree of latitude towards some members OR deleting others... for the most part i will say this forum is as clean and well cared for as any.

Doug we don't remove anything here based solely on post count. The obvious spam accounts are banned, people who repeatedly break the rules which I can count on two hands and the occasional person who attempts to hide behind different accounts which is usually a company . ;) The power of <secret> and <sauce> and the stupidity of people is amazing....

Set up your personal choices for topic search and then use the NEW button.
You'll only get new discussions in the topics that you want to look at. That
will filter all the political BS.

In case anybody is wondering about this you can filter forums from the "New" and "Active" topics list:

Wow I've been on here quite a few years! Seems like an eternity ago I joined after buying that Mark I. Didn't post much back then - was too busy working - that's all I ever did!

7 years - what a ride it's been!

And on the topic, I could never understand how people come on here and cry about our political rants. There's a whole section of the forum for that ... and a whole other section for coal. Are people just stupid, or illiterate? Pick and choose where you want to go. It's a free country ... at least this year anyway ...

Richard, do you have any screen shots of early home pages? I looked through those other snapshots and didn't see any.
The earliest one I remember had a black background with Greg's famous big coal fire at the lower right part of the screen with Anthracite in silhouetted letters across the screen.
It would be cool to see that again.
