Crazy world

My cousin lost her job.... for three hours. She (was, wasn't, is) working for a non profit medical type office doing paper work. A month ago she was told they had lost funding & her job was first to go. They had a little going away lunch for her. They all said they'd miss her. She got cards & little gifts. She expressed to us she had no idea how they would operate without her...or someone like her. The job NEEDS to get done, but, well... I guess we couldn't worry about it too much. So... she get's done at noon yesterday & goes home. She's been applying here & there, but nothing on the horizon. At 3 PM the phone rings...It's them: "We got some new funding, can you work tomorrow? We need you!" Crazy world.

It never happened to me, but at BIW they have been known to put in a notice for involuntary layoff, and before the two week mandatory Union Notice was up, they changed their mind and called it off.

Cianbro is even worse; whenever someone gets hurt, they are immediately laid-off. That makes for a pretty good motivator not to get hurt I guess, but I have no interest in working for them because of it.

I hope she still get the same pay and benefits.......

But perhaps she could negotiate a raise for herself since she is in demand ????

Most non-profits rely on a variety of government grants for many programs.

My wife was in the same boat working for a local YMCA. She had a variety of part time positions working for various branches controlled by the main office of the Y. Most of the time she changed jobs, it was because funding ran out. To make it worst, the adminstrators/management were poor and difficult to deal with.

It wore on her and two years ago when she was down to one 8 hour/week part time position, she quit. She is still looking for a different job as jobs in this area, even minimum wage are very tough to find.

Yep, thats what I did when my old company called me back.... renogotiated the piss outta them!
It felt good.
I never made more money in my life.
The downfall is, I lost salary for the 3 1/2years that I was out.
Ya never win, you just try and stay in the race..
