Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Reading Juanita
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Post by Carbondale » Sun. Jan. 06, 2013 2:59 pm

Howdy folks

Thanks for having me on your forum.

I bought a second hand Reading Juniata stove to heat my garage. I am not sure that I have all the parts. Does anyone have one of these stoves that can post a pic of what the inside of the stove looks like? Also if I could see what it looks like when it is burning it would be great.

I am in the Binghamton NY area, can anybody tell me where the best place to buy coal is? The stove burns rice and buck coal.

Thanks
Pat

Thanks Lightning

Here is a stupid question, does the coal just set on the little grate by the shoot? If so there must not be a lot of coal that is lit at a time. I have no experience with these stoves. I remember my grandfather had a coal stove when I was a kid with flat lids on it. He used to put shovels full of coal in it and it seemed like quite a bit.

After you review the manual, you will better understand the principles of an inclined grate stoker. Forget what you saw at your grandfathers, this is a whole different approach to economical coal burning in a unit that requires electrical power for a blower/blowers, and a gear reduced stoker motor. You will love the simplicity, and marvel at the fact that it is so easy to operate. I think even a democrat could figure it out in a week or two.................oops, that was not nice! True, but not PC!

PS: welcome aboard, it might be a rough ride for a few weeks, but you will get out of the 'newbie' corner in due time.    :!:

You'll fit in fine around here. As far as the stove there's a u-tube video (operating coal stove anthracite stoker) that might help give you the idea of how things work. This site is a wealth of information. You can look up somethings by just using the search box. If you can't find what your looking for ask, everyone is real friendly here. Welcome and enjoy your stove. :D
