Gun stupidity in Ithaca, NY

Fred, when I was doing the estate sales you would be surprised at the # of guns & other stuff we found that either the spouse or other survivors had no idea were there, they didn't want to see it yet alone touch it even had one elderly man accuse me of planting it there (I guess to make more money for him when it sold). If it was no questions asked people will turn in broken crap that they don't trust & take the money & buy new. Probably quarterly the police would bring in a truck load or two of weapons to be destroyed in the steel mill, they wouldn't even let us help throw them in. I always wondered why they couldn't sell them to the highest legal bidder & make the tax payer some money, I have seen all kinds of collectible arms just melted down, a real shame IMO.

Living over this way I can assure that the lack of common sense in Ithaca is hardly limited to gun buy-back I will say though that there may have been 60 people that had a gun laying around that didnt want to see it stolen like in conn. and wind up in the hands of some nutjob or criminal, and we do Know that theives are criminals. I dont see the downside of it.......

I love these moronic buybacks. You turn in old junk that doesn't work, then get money for it you never would have got, to go spend on new guns and more ammo. Can even take that anti-gun money and throw a nice donation to GOA or the NRA.

They did that in PA quite a few years back. I remember my dad turned one in, the $ they gave was worth twice what the gun was worth. He took the money and went and bought a newer nicer gun.

Yea and the criminals stand outside buying guns at twice the rate they are offering inside.

They just did one of these in Camden, NJ the weekend of the school shooting. I forget the amount of weapons were turned in but they reported two what they called "ROCKET LAUNCHERS".

People like you just don't get it waldo. They are tools, that is all. Some are classic designs and valued much higher for their scarcity. Would it be okay to round up all the old Stanley hand planes and throw them in the smelter just to create demand for new ones or to punish them for some nut using one to bash in his neighbors skull? THEY ARE A TOOL. And we gun owners covet some models and designs. Just like a carpenter like me appreciates old hand tools.

It is a bad idea because it sends crack hungry scum into homes to find guns that they can sell, no questions asked, to buy more crack. Ask a meth head if they would rather have a gun or $200. They will take the $200 all day long! That is a lot of meth they can buy, and fast food.

Real thugs dont need to turn their illegal guns into money. They make theirs selling the crack to the crack heads ot sticking up houses.

They should have a testical buy back if they really want to make a difference. Pay people to get neutered. Give them $1000 cash to get snipped. Just THINK of the money that would be saved...
