vanwert stoker gear head auger

Evening folks,

I am looking for a vanwert stoker for a project. I saw a picture of an va13 with a feeder auger from the left side and a different unit with a feeder tube from the right side. Can a left auger feeder be modified to a right auger feeder. Are the right or left gearhead the same as for other vanwert stokers? Does anyone has a unit that feeds from the left side or a gearhead part?

I don't know about the va13 but I don't see them being interchangeable if they are anything like mine. These are on a VA1200

What does the chain do closest to the boiler?
Would you call yours a left side feed?

There is three fingers that spin around the pot to knock the ash off. You can see them i these pictures at different locations. You can see all three of them in the last picture although it's just the tops of two.

If you're looking at it from the front the auger tube goes to the right.

Richard, Thank you for the pics. Nice set up. It looks very compact and efficient. Can you burn BIt in this with the finger arrangement. I read that va13 meant 13 lbs of coal /hour. How is the numbering going for the 600, 1200, in BTU ?? Are the va13 area earlier or later the the 600 1200.
The va13 has the motor and fan 90 degree rotated from your va1200. The auger gear piece itself and gears looks the same but might have different dimensions. Did you ever see a unit that was fed from the other side?

I wouldn't know and wouldn't try it. Firstly you're not going to get the consistently sized buckwheat. EFM experimented with some bit but it had a larger auger and tube. The pot is from Prill if I recall.

AFAIK it's 320K but don;t quote me on that.... its a huge pot.

I've only known 3 of them and all three had the tube going to the right.

I thought I read that the EFM S-30 stoker unit can be switched from right to left auger feed.The feed auger and the air tubes are on the front side of the boiler,wich would make putting a stoker unit in a loading door easier only if the door opening is large enough.I think I know what your wanting to do

Richard, Thank you, I do want to burn bit since I live downtown, only inquiring since I had read some about bit and rotating pots. Compact was may be not the right word but very nice aligned setup,

Dennis, thank you, yes that is what I meant, my coal bin is on the other side ( outside so it is not possible to change it around) I also need to remove the ashes from the front. You posted a picture of a white stoker unit in another thread 29 dec 2012 that has it all. Who made that unit an is there an availability.?

I just learning and researching the underfeed stokers with ash removal units.They are older units and some members rebuild them and have them avalible,I think? Here the link for them Original stoker from 1940
