My Hitzer calls for using 1/2" fiberglass rope gasket on front door and ash door. Are there variances in 1/2" rope gasket?

short answer is "Yes", many gaskets are made by many different manufacturers... some more dense, some less dense, some woven one way, some woven another way... The stove manufacturer may be reluctant to give you the exact make of the gasket they use because they make money from selling them direct to you (but its worth a try to ask them ;) they surly don't make their own gasket. Most common for the public is Rutland (I dont know of any manufactures that use this)... "allstate" would be a better source for OEM type stuff. If you post some photo's of your gasket or know if its a squishier type or dense type i could better advise you.
