The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

The only thing I see there that I don't really like or care for is the "Doctor's asking if you have firearms in the house". What business is it of theirs? Everything else I'm OK with for now. Especially the reporting of lost or stolen firearms. One would think this would be common sense but apparently not?

I'm assuming that patients would be those with mental problems. Severely depressed as an example. Plus it states Doctor's asking but doesn't say it's reported to anyone. Medical records are still confidential.

No, they have the ability now to grill your kids without you present and document what you have in your house. This is why they were barred from doing it. Use the children to undermine the parents. Popular theme with Socialist/Marxist/whatever. There were big fights in online forums about the doctors being barred from doing it. Of course, the mostly female doctors arguing would say that they just wanted to "study" the links, but it would finally come out that they were anti-gun. Funny pro-gun doctors don't see the need to gather info that can be modified by the collectors at will. Not a scientific study unless controls are in place and we have seen the Liberal penchant for lying to achieve ends. Just look at the global warming fiasco.

The doctor asked you if you had a gun?

I'd tell them flat out none of their damn business.

Yep me too. Why would the Doctor be asking at all if it wasn't tied to mental health or rather personality disorder? They can't share the info anyway? I don't understand that Doctor bit at all? Have to ask one that I know. That would be confidential and could only be used as a statistical data for studies and not to pinpoint a specific situation.

Yep, asked if we had guns in the house.

He asked it like any other typical question a Doc would ask.

I hate to continue to lead this calf astray, but.... I was also asked by my occupational physician during a exam if a owned/used firearms. I asked her why she wanted to know she said it was to figure out if i have or could develop hearing loss from non-occupational exposure to loud noises. I said I will not awnser her question but asked her to ask the question in a different way. She did and i gave her a awnser. She also asked if i cast bullets or worked with lead solder.

“Firearm Ownership Privacy Act,” which bars doctors from asking patients about guns in the home, “unless the practitioner in good faith believes the information is relevant to the patient’s medical care or safety.

I don't have a problem with most of those. Numbers 4, 14, 15 & 16 need alittle work.

I would add that anyone taking a SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) should not own a gun. The majority of these mass shooters are young men who were prescribed these drugs. The most common are Prozac, Celexa, Luvox, Zoloft, Paxil and Lexapro. SSRI's are the "smoking gun" that the politicans and doctors don't want to talk about. There are more and some variants but normal sane people don't go into a school and slaughter scores of people. People who are unstable do.
