America's dead, gun control

I love it when people say, "High Capacity Magazines should be banned because people never use them in hunting." Okay, so show me where the Second Amendment says ANYTHING about hunting? It was provided to us because our forefathers wanted us to protect ourselves from intruders. When I have a group of robbers coming in the front door...HELLO...I do not want to have to reload! Bringing this back to a hunting argument is like saying we should not have free speech because someone might swear in front of a two year old. What the heck does that have to do with giving up my freedom of speech?

As for statistics, lets look at Washington DC who had one of the toughest gun controls in the nation. I am not sure anyone paid attention, but prior to 2008 that had one of the highest gun crimes in the nation, not to mention highest murder rates. After 2008 when the gun laws were scaled back, the murder rate went from 188 in 2007 to 88 last year! That is 100 murders less per year simple because good people could shoot back. Now I am telling you Brother (and sisters) that when a person feels they might be shot back at, is a REAL deterrent.

Want more...

Go back to 1950 and count all the multiple murders where 3 or more people were killed by a single gunmen. There is only ONE incident where the crime occurred where there was no strict gun control, and that was in Tucson with Mrs. Gifford. All the others...going back to 1950 no less, occurred where strict gun control was on the books.

Obama has armed men protecting his children, I think mine deserve the same opportunity.

A few weeks ago a neighbor noticed some people breaking into a neighbors camp. He called the police and they said they did not have an officer that could respond. So while he was still on the phone he told his son to chamber a round in the rifle. The dispatcher heard that and suddenly they did have an officer that responded and in fact came out with 15 minutes, a record here.

Just having a gun I guess can garner police help. Here criminals and police are really one in the same...very low morals and standards.

There is a misconception that Hitler banned the German people from having guns which for the most part is not true, save one race which was banned from owning any type of firearms. I am speaking of course of the Jews, and we all know what happened to them once they could not defend themselves. I don't think our government will kill us right away. I think they will strip us of rights and tax us to death. Once the 2nd is gone the rest will follow. :(

Yowysaaa my friend. That is a loaded statement! I am not sure you want them reading it. I have the same low opinion of rural cops in Maine myself, but i don't live there anymore! I always observed that the police force was made up of guys that got teased and wedgied in high school, hence the tv character Barney Fife. Some would say I have a problem with authority, but I prefer to call it a problem with blind authority.

I think that's ashame that you've pigeon holed law enforcement in that area.98% of the Sherrifs & Troopers are very professional & a credit to their chosen profession out this way. The only time I've ever seen them any other way is when, unfortunatly, they have to deal with A-holes that think laws & rules are for everybody but them.

I assume this is widely known here on the forum, but the nut bag in Newtown didn't use an "assault weapon" in his murder spree at the school. He used four hand guns.

If there is one thing a dipstick liberal hates worse than a scary looking rifle, it's a scary looking rifle with a scary name-----Bushmaster!

Now iam hearing that a lot of the police ,at least in this area arent going to enforce the new laws,Mr cuomo I think has released a *censored* storm ,for lack of a better word and does not realize the depth of the feeling for the 2nd amendment around here! You're 100% on the money with that, even if you do belong to that Erieville cult. I spoke with a buddy that has a gun shop local & asked him about ammo. purchasing. He told me there was not a date for when THOSE background checks are to start & that he didn't really see that happening--the Black Market don't pay any revenue. CUMJOB-O (our gov) is an embarrasment to any true blooded American that lives here. I can't find the words to describe my thoughts on all that the fkn, *censored* a$$, suck a$$ has done & is doing to this State--him & bloomerberg just need to confess that they've come out of the closet & are the best of butt buddies :mad3: :mad2: :taz:

I do believe the Mass. proposal is much more sinister than even NY's new laws.

The taxing and more importantly the Insurance mandate is a sure way to make people just give up because they won't be able to afford it if and when they find an Insurance carrier that will except you.

Case in point, my insurance agent has told us that because we own Rottweilers and our carrier (who we've had for 25yrs) never asked about "dangerous" dogs we are covered...ONCE. If they happen to injure someone, anyone, including a burglar. Then they will drop you like a bad habit.
My agent called last year for an offer on a new carrier at great rates. I had to remind her about my boys and sadly she had forgotten about them and sure enough the new carrier had a clause about ownership of certain breeds.

I'm just waiting for Connecticut's ball to drop. :x

As for the dogs Ed, I'm pretty sure MANY if not all ins. carriers have had that dog clause for yrs. State Farm asked me about what breed I have at least 15 yrs ago--mine have always been Labs or Black & Tans--

I think you should leave it up to us to decide what the quality of LO is in our respective county and state. I instructed my sons when they became mobile(truck) to be leary of town cops and sheriffs dept. and respect the state police as they are profiled and professional. They never had any issues but I grew older and that view has changed. I have seen troopers act like real people, imagine that, and the county sheriff is a friend that is as solid as a rock. 98% might be a little strong anyplace in the country. But as you are a little bit of a public service junkie like my bro in law, you view them in a glowing light and I view them with a skeptical eye. I have observed that volunteer fire depts and local cops attract a certain type of person. Do we need them? You bet, but I don't have to worship them as hero's and submit to their authority whenever they demand it. Local govs realize they can get a little giddy with all the power. I have observed tiffs between the fire dept and the town cops over who controls the scene! Barney Fife as I said, on both sides! It is up to the leadership to recognize and control these individuals, but sometimes they become the leaders in small communities.
And since this is about gun control, There are not many of them I want to rely on in a situation where I need a gun. State Police, yes, locals no.

Kevin

I would submit many also get involved for the benefits. Gov job after all. And job security, everyone is speeding, every day. ;)

I don't know why some police & firepeople seem to get an attitude when everyone tells them they are soo much smarter & have a "right" to not listen to them. Must be the type of person those jobs where you risk your life to try help err scratch that, to get all the benefits heck free coffee from the red cross who wouldn't risk their life for that. I always found that you can attract more bee's with honey than vinegar.
