I'm installing a Leisure Line Pocono Top Vent coal stove and want to put a Magic Heat Reclaimer in the flu piping. Problem is that the Magic Heat says to mount it 18" away from the stove, I only have enough room to mount it 4" above the stove. NOW, with the Pocono, it has a top plate with an air wash below, so I'm thinking that there won't be excessive heat coming from the top of the stove and I'll be OK with installing the Magic Heat reclaimer only 4" above the top of the stove.

What is everyone's thoughts on this idea? Am I correct in what I am thinking or should I just not install it?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!!

I had a 6" Magic Heat mounted on my Harman Magnum all of last year, no issues or problems. Is the same deal as the LL, the air jacket usually maintains a temp 200*F cooler than the sides and front of the stove.

IMO go for it should work fine. :)

Can you define "that" in numbers? I see an average reduction in stack temps of between 15 and 20%. My Scottish side says that is worth the price of admission. :)

ive got one and not only does it reclaim heat from the pipe but because its mounted12 inches off the top of the stove it washes the heat off the stove and circulates it.

Any problems with fly ash plugging it up? Corrosion during the off season?

Since the outside case is square it will hold a fair amount of fly ash on the ledge that is created by the bottom of the case. I disconnect mine in the off season and give it a good vacuuming and then spray it with WD 40 for good measure. No corrosion issues so far.

Yes, just be aware you will need to vacuum out the fly ash once a year when you do your maint at end of burn year. More will collect on the larger horizontal surface but otherwise no issues. :)
