Clayton coal/wood furnance not through heat

PostBy: cracken66 On: Tue Jan 22, 2013 1:53 pm

I have a clayton 1600 coal/wood furnance. Used coal for the past 5 years great. This year can't get a coal fire hot enough to through much heat. I start a wood fire the switch over and have to have ash door completly open to get is coal bed going, when I close door the coal dies out not completly but no heat, I have a barometric damper does'nt seem to help chimney is clear. If I use the injection blow the coal goes cold. Wood on the otherhand burns just fine nice and hot. I've got different coal but it does the same thing Any suggestions

5 years of anthracite or soft coal?
They are very different as to what is required for a good sustainable fire.

There is a 24 page thread on burning in a clayton furnace successfully burning anthracite coal in a clayton furnace and use the search button top right corner and type in "clayton furnace",your furnace is a US Stove product,(clayton, hot blast, fire cheif,) and you can search that also and welcome
