PostBy: Dennis On: Thu Jan 24, 2013 9:15 pm

I have noticed the last week this forum is buzzing that everyone has been changing and adjusting their appliance to meet the demand.I've also noticed that most member north of NEPA haven't had much problems keeping up.It gets cold down here, but not this cold, only every few years or so.You northerner really have it togather and this seems like the norm for you.Glad everyone's keeping warm

You need an artic blast once in a while just to keep you on your toes.

It is REALLY cold in my area right now. Thermometer reads right at 0, and the wind is shaking the house. Wind chills are hitting -20 and supposed to get worse between now and midnight. My EFM is running pretty hard, but it is "holding the line" so far.

Edit: Wind is supposed to die down overnight, -17 expected in the morning.

Yes, I've been altering my operation too... Some days servicing her 3 times a day instead of 2.. Maintaining 75 degrees in the house while I currently see a -3 on the thermometer

I recently bought a weather monitor that displays inside/outside temp and humidity. Its interesting to see that its -3 degrees with 79% relative humidity outside while its 75 degrees with only 32% relative humidity inside. Its amazing how much more water that warmer air can hold than colder air, hence the humidity levels inside and outside....

Yep, with this -6 stuff, I actually had to turn my bi-metallic knob up a number to 6 on the old Hitzer & going through about 50 lbs of nut instead of 40--still emptying the ash pan once a day ;)

Turned the DS to a little after 4.5 on the dial last night. Shes running around 560* now. House was 69* when I woke up. The cool thing is I don't seem to be using any more coal than usual.
