That's the first thing people say "I didn't know the gun was loaded" I always get a kick out of that, I was always taught (& taught my kids) to treat every gun as if it were loaded but a statement like that is just showing how misinformed many are.

I thought of that myself Sam and it's certainly possible that is what she meant but considering some of the ignorant comments I've heard about guns from politicians within the last few weeks......

Wait, what? This is a joke right? It has to be. People can't honestly believe that right? I have lost all hope for humanity. 2013 is the year of the comets. I hope one takes us out.

A few weeks ago there was a local incidence where a young man went to a gun store to try & sell a couple of guns (maybe to buy Christmas presents or pay bills). In any event the store doesn't deal in used so when he left he said he placed the empty gun on the armrest & it went off & killed his young son. Now obviously the gun wasn't empty & he didn't carefully treat it correctly but here is a young father that will have to live with that the rest of his life, he should have & most likely did know better & genuinely thought it was unloaded but it only takes a millisecond for something like that to happen & end one life & ruin another couple, a tragedy for sure & certainly avoidable but it happened. For someone that knows nothing what so ever to make a totally stupid remark doesn't surprise me a bit.

There's no excuse for that. EVERY gun owner needs to know whether or not you've got one in the chamber. That's been drilled into my head since I was 5.

Now you need to check a 4th time, because it's *censored* like this the lefty media LOVES to report on. They've already painted us as crazy Tea-Partiers, so all they need to further their agenda is a couple negligent discharges. I will NOT be THAT GUY.

Every owner has to treat a gun like it's always loaded, no exceptions. That however won't make it fire if it's unloaded. LOL

I was going to post earlier about it's just common sense to drop the mag and pull the slide back on a semi-automatic to release the one in the chamber. Why anyone would then at that point put the mag back in is beyond me. It's at that point too easy out of habit to rack the slide and put one in the chamber.

Years ago back in my wild and crazy days someone I knew pulled a 30-06 out that was in storage for ages, he never checked it. He pulled the hammer back and he was pointing it out the front picture window in his house towards the woods. You can tell he was thinking of pulling the trigger but he didn't. Sure enough it was loaded...

I was taught to always treat every gun as if it is loaded, even if you know it isn't. As has already been mentioned, lots of people have been accidentally shot by guns that were presumed to be unloaded. From that perspective, I can agree with at least part of what she said, though I certainly don't agree with the intent of her argument.

I don't know what she meant because it's followed by "whether it's loaded or not it still presents a threat".

Does that mean she thinks a unloaded gun presents a threat or that it can be loaded?

Normally I would agree that she probably didn't mean exactly what she said but I've so many ignorant statements over the last few weeks I really have to wonder.

Growing up my dad used to keep all his guns locked up in a gun cabinet. One day my brother and I were messing around by the cabinet when a fight broke out. We were wrestling around and trying to hurt one another when he pushed me through the glass of the cabinet. All the guns fell out onto the floor. We quickly left the area and waited for my dad to get home. Even though we knew they weren't loaded we didn't dare touch them just in case. When our dad got home he put them all away, installed a piece of Lexan and scolded up about how we could've been hurt from the broken glass and warned us to stay away from his gun cabinet.

Damn I've tried to stay out of this one. Oh well. For a fact there are a slew of people that legally own firearms that SHOULD NOT. It's ashame, but as in anything common sense geared, YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID & that's the ammo the libbers are running with. Sad, sad state of affairs we have here. :(
