Sounds like clinker dams on the grate. Less air and/or more feed would help...I suggest they start by checking the amount of ash on the grate after a long burn.

sorry The coal backs up instead of sliding down the grates. Yes the grates are clean and smooth and all the holes are open. BoboK

Simple question, is your boiler LEVEL and the stoker inserted FLUSH against the side? If the bed doesn't have the correct slope, based on the level and mounting of the stoker, it can cause this problem, too.

isnt this backwards? the manual says "Counterclockwise for less coal feed. Turn RED nut Clockwise for more coal feed. "

Nut towards the end makes the rod "longer" in the eyes of the stroking lever = longer stroke = more coal feed.

Clockwise/counterclockwise depends on your point of reference, which is why I like the rod length explanation better ;)

Found some problems with the ka 6, grates had been removed by owner and never resealed at the upper end. However, the coal still hangs up. it did slide down but as a complete sheet, 2" thick as wide as the grates and 1 continuos piece into the ash bin. Have tried 3 different brands of coal, Cornwall, Reading- bagged and bulk, and hazleton shaft. to no avail. The guy's wife wants him to throw it away and I'm gettin to that point myself. :( I am unable to get over 400 stack, even with buckwheat. All suggestions are appreciated. Bobo K

Should also mention, -.02 over fire, ten turns back on feed from max. main air closed small air partially open. Have tried main air in all positions. I'm not impressed with Keystokers :!: :!: Bobo K

How in the world do you run without any air for the main combustion blower?

The more air it gets the worse it burns!!! Have tried multiple positions. set it, leave it, come back in an hour, no good A 15 yr veteran said that was best. Bobo K
