No, I'm one of the poor slobs who had to work. Both of my sons were there. This is a football crazy town. We loved our Colts before they were taken out of town literally in the middle of the night in moving vans. Years of memorabilia stolen from the town. John Unitas goes into the hall of fame as an Indianapolis Colt! Ugh! Robert Ursay was a slug.

This sounds a lot like how Cleveland Browns fans feel about their old Browns (err, Ravens). Stolen out from under us by the owner. But he was the owner, so it was his right to do with them as he pleased. Glad you like them.

This sounds a lot like how Cleveland Browns fans feel about their old Browns (err, Ravens). Stolen out from under us by the owner. But he was the owner, so it was his right to do with them as he pleased. Glad you like them.

Yeah there are some similarites. Both teams moved. But here are some significant differences.

Colts were moved out of town in the middle of the night, unannounced. The owner, Robert Irsay who was an obnoxious loud mouth drunk, took the team, lock, stock and barrel. All our historic Colts memorabelia and the Colts "name." That happened in 1984. Although Baltimore was a dedicated football town, we were repeatedly bypassed for an expansion team by Paul Tagliabue who had some kind of beef with the city. We didn't get a team for 12 years.

Modell moved the Browns in 1996. He did not take your team memorabilia or team name. If I'm not mistaken cleveland got an expansion team 2 years later. So not a good time in Cleveland but hardly compares to what happened to us IMO.

That was a major bummer in 84. I was living there and had an office in Columbia, Md down the road. Some of my sales reps and Photogs were diehard members of th Colts booster club and had all the bells and whistles. It was like a funeral the day after that happened.

Yes it was. And we relived it every year when they would dangle the hope of an expansion team and then not grant it. Believe it or not, the Colt marching band stayed together all that time. They are the current Ravens band. I know it sounds kinda silly now but the loss of the Colts left a huge hole in our lives for over a decade. Some folks moved on and became Redskins fans, some Eagles. Robert Irsay is dead and his son has apolgized to Baltimore fans and said how wrong his father was to do what he did.
Believe me many Baltimore fans had very mixed emotions about the Browns (Ravens) moving here because they were taken from Cleveland and we knew very well how that felt. It took me a couple of years to warm up to the Ravens for that reason.
