Solved most of my air circ prolems & cheaply !

I have had problems moving the air around the house (2 story/2400 sq.ft) .. used regular fans to minimal effect.

This year I got an inline booster fan, see link. I put in small nails into the top of my doorway casing and strung or hung the fan using some picture wire (running wire through the "tube" of the fan).

Now the top level is only 2-3 degrees cooler than the room with the fan ... and the fan is pretty quiet. And the rooms on the first, furthest from the stove (not an open concept floorplan) are also 2-3 degrees different than the room with the stove. (measured at furthest point in room from stove).

So its 28 outside, 70 in room with stove and 68-67 elsewhere. (the furthest bedroom from the stove upstairs is only exception being at 64..its down about a 20 ft hallway ... so I am not surprised at this).

The trouble with a lot of doorway fans, IMHO, is that they don't move much air. They can pull air from in front of the fan as well as behind it, so they just churn it around. The fact that this fan is in a tube should make it more effective. If the tube were longer, even better....

You must have a tolerant wife. If I hung something like that in the doorway I would be in deep doo doo, functionality be damned!

Just be careful with the heat, sometimes those inline fans are not rated real high temperatures, not sure what your temps are in the pipe, but some people have burnt them up being too close to the stoves.

You can also put a temperature snap switch or Duct Stat (Thermostat) to control them on heat rise.

That is true, I burnt out 2 of those. I had them in a heated duct from a potbelly stove and they couldn't handle the 200* air, but this fan is free wheeling in the top corner of a doorway simular too the pie shaped doorway fans.
