Well, I spent the day driving to Avon MA and Cranston RI to pick up a semi-restored City Glenwood No.12 and a rough No.14. The drive was a bit crazy, especially with the Nor-Easter approaching - traffic was heavy to say the least.

I had seen the No.12 on Craigslist - Steve was nice enough to hold it for me to look at. I had a chance to view his very impressive collection of stoves. He restores them as a hobby - lots of beautiful Base Burners, Oaks and cylinder models. Mostly Glenwoods, Crawfords and a Herald or two.
The Glenwoods were mostly 'Moderns', which I like a lot. He showed me the stove, and we made a cash deal (very reasonable) and we were off to Cranston RI to pick up the No.14.

The No. 12 is a direct draft and the No.14 is indirect. Steve's workmanship is pretty good, but I definitely need to reseal it completely. The nickel looks gorgeous! Price for the No. 12 - $225.00

We blasted down to Cranston, and found our way through the maze of suburban neighborhoods to get to Carmen's house. Naturally he was running late, so we had a 45 minute wait, but he eventually showed up, and I saw the stove for the first time. Not horrible, but the tin rot is disappointing. I couldn't see it in the eBay listing pictures. It also is missing the beauty ring. But it is functioning direct draft AND the firebox and grates are almost like new. So it doesn't look like it's been used all that much. Just bad storage in a very damp place. A contractor friend of mine says we have a local metal fabricator who could replace the cylinder, and do a nice job! Price for the No. 14 - $85.00

Any ideas on locating a beauty ring would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I'm sorry, I missed this about the City Glenwoods. You can probably find a top ring for the larger one. Somebody, somewhere has one.
The larger one with the back pipe would be an excellent stove for a small house say around 1.200 square feet.
They can really put out the heat for their size. What are you going to do with them?

Do you restore them & then resell? You might have a buyer right here. :?:

Chris,
I wish I didn't look at the enticing pictures of your city #12 . I picked up a city #14, and was set to pass it on...but now I'm inspired to restore it. I want to dabble in restoration, and the #14 looks like a good one for practice. Looks like I'm destined to have a family of glenwoods... Wish there was a stove restoration workshop one could attend to aid in bypassing common pitfalls/mistakes.....trial and error seems to be the only option. Mine in similar to your conditionwise, except that mine does not have the dome/finial or either of the nickel foot rests- I'll be on the lookout. That #12 looks quite nice shined up!

very similar to the "Our Glenwood" just a lot smaller (It does appear those doors and finial and maybe even the foot rests are very similar!) so maybe you can mix N match parts from other Glenwoods as needed?

'Our Glenwood' must be huge!
The base /stand of 'city 14' is identical/ interchangeable to the Modern Glenwood Oak 116....same height too. Thanks for tip on 'Our Glenwood' ...I'm unfamiliar, but get the inpression that it is the 'deluxe' model of these 'city' type stoves.

The, "Our Glenwood," series of stoves are full base heaters. City Glenwoods are coal heaters that can either be direct draft or have an indirect back pipe. These were the low priced economy stoves in the Glenwood Line. No matter, they are still very solid, reliable and well built stoves.
